Need Job Advice Ladies....

Hi Everyone....as you all know, I got the W4 to fill out and such for the public school system in GA for substituting....

just got an e-mail from a local Christian school down there asking to meet with me when we are down there.....

Should I bother meeting with them knowing that religious institutions pay lower than public schools or give it a whirl knowing it is a teaching position and not substituting which is touch and go at times.....

I would say to check it out. (if you have the time)

Who knows? You could fall in love with the school and the people. I make barely any $ here but I love all my co-workers.

I would go for the steady job.

ETA - or at least meet with them.

Check it out---it's worth it since it's a steady job!

It definitely does not hurt to meet with them. Then decide once you get out there if you want to take the full-time or substitute position.

I would definitely meet w/ them. Is the pay that different? At least that one is a steady job. Good luck!

At least you would have benefits with the full-time job, which you probably wouldn't with the substituting...Check it out and see how much less it pays, but figure out what it would cost to have you covered on DH's benefits, so you can figure how the salaries really compare. Good luck!

I'm not a lady but I will try and give you some help...I would definitely meet with the school about a teaching job. Even if it's less money you could do it for a year and then look for a better job next year. It will lok much better on your resume too if you were teaching for a year rather then subbing for a year. I'm a fellow aspiring teacher as well so I know what a pain in the backside it is to find a job, good luck!

Well, maybe this will give you perspective. When I moved to Massachusetts, I got my state certification to teach in a public school so I wouldn't have the low salary in the private schools. Well, turns out in MA, most private schools will pay you more than the public schools. I took a private school job that I made TWICE the amount that I was offered in a public school.
Moral of the story: You don't know how much less you will make, or even if you will make less until you go Don't forget that you can't go by LI salaries for a teacher, either. Most states don't pay nearly as much as we do.

Thank You for your perspective.....I do know that the average teachers' salary for GA is around $43,000, which isn't too bad.....

I'm going to take everyones' advice and at least meet with the Principal when we are down there! Thank You all!!

Give it a go. I subbed up here for 2 years and it didn't get me a full time job offer. I did do half a year stints at a few middle schools but nothing permanent as they were for teachers out on maternity leave.

The Christian School may be a stepping stone that leads to a position at a public school. It might be worth it. You can always turn down an offer if you feel it's not for you.

Good luck
