Need legal help - apt security deposit

Need legal help - apt security deposit

Can any lawyers out there help a sista out?

We moved out of our apt in May. Our lease says we'll get our security deposit back in approximately 60 days. It's more than 90 days now. Every time I call they have no idea when I will get it, and also say it hasn't even crossed their desk (i'm guessing that means the inspection hasn't been done).

Can I take them to small claims court? Is it worth it? It's like $2,000!

TIA!

I would write a formal 'demand letter' and request the deposit back or you will take legal action. We moved to a new apartment in the same building in May and just last week got our first deposit back. I would also attach the page of your lease that states '60 days.' HTH!!!

To file a claim in small claims court is less than 20 bucks so when you compare tthat to 2,000 yea I'd do it.
Plus you might not even have to go cause it will light a match under their butts...just make sure you have all documents and photos from when you left.

ITA with this

start with a demand letter threatening legal action

give them a deadline

if they don't get back to you by that date, start the small claims action

$2K is $2K!
