need MOB gown help (updated w pics)

so here's the deal...

My mom has a tendency of wearing very lowcut dresses. she wore a cleave revealing dress for my sis's wedding which was ok bc my sis had ceremony at swan club and all family was very laid back and didn't care

however, I'm getting married at st. agnes Cathedral AND FIL's are VERY old school and traditional and its very much about appearances with them. I'm afraid that if my mom wears a low cut gown it will give them something to talk about.

I tried to tell my mom not to buy her gown and that we would look for one together when she comes to visit but i just found some MOB dresses that are prefect but they are all over $300 and my mom doesn't have it like that...and I am so tied up with wedding expenses i dunno if I can afford to spring for it.

I don't want my mom to feel like she has to be uncomfortable because she feels alot of MOB gowns are too matronly and she wants to feel sexy which is fine...but where can i get better deals on MOB worthy Formal gowns

have you thought of offering to split it with her?? it would be alot easier to absorb the cost for both of you if you only had to pay for 1/2 JMO

Re: need MOB gown help (update)

ok so i had sent my mom some suggestions via im but because she wasn't on to recieve them apparently it was too late because she said she bid in a dress for $12 on ebay!!! it's not that the dress is ugly...I just don't think its apropriate for MOB. She should be regal...I mean she gets to walk down that aisle with eyes on her just like i do. this is what she is bidding on

but this is more what i would envision her to wear ...or something like it (the one on the right)

I just want her to look and feel gorgeous. I don't want her to get there and see FMIL and FSIL all in expensive, gorgeous gowns and feel less than.

bump for opinions on how to approach mom and tell her the dress she already bid on isn't dressy enough

What about just checking out Bloomies or Nordstrom or Lord and Taylor with her?

Maybe just tell her while you think that dress is very pretty, you would like her to wear a gown that is more formal and would love to help her pick it out.

Searching for a MOB dress was soo much harder than looking for my bridal gown. I would start out by agreeing with your mom that a lot of the dresses out there are frumpy and/or expensive. My mom ending up getting her dress from the Jade by Jasmine line, which has younger yet still MOB worthy dresses. The best part is that they are fairly inexpensive. I recommend checking them out.
Another choice is your mom really wants to let 'the girls' show is that you can have a detachable modesty piece that she can wear during the church and pictures and remove to really boogie down for the reception.
