hi ladies so my FH did a DJ appt. all by himself today and came back (he spent 2 hrs. there) and did an excellent job. asked just about all the q's i wanted, and was totally excited about the DJ. however, i am unsure about the price. it's a bit over what i wanted to spend, and wanted to get your opinions on the package price.
they specialize in latin/cultural music (which we totally need) as well as american, and might be considered a 'high-end' DJ. here's the package details: -1 DJ -1 MC -Music for ceremony, CH, reception (about 6 hours total + they arrive about 2 hrs. before ceremony to set up) -Computerized Light Show for Grand Entrance and Dancing [basically lots of color lights and shows to coordinate with the music being played]
the price: $2375 (tax included)
how's this sound to you ladies?

that's a great price. i guess i should add--that while there are fantastic DJ's around here in LI, FH and i have had quite a difficult time finding DJs that specialize in latin music! we need someone who is gonna truly KNOW the genres of music we need! that's why i'm liking this DJ, as they know what we need, but hating the price!!

I think that price sounds about right. My dj is only a little less expensive, but that doesn't include the lighting.

I think that for the fact that he specializes in latin music (which a lot of places don't) and that your FH is very impressed with them, I would spend the extra money to be happy. If that is an important factor in your decision, then I don't know if I would put a price tag on it. Just budget elsewhere and make up the difference. Music is very important at the wedding, so decide carefully! Good Luck!!!!!!

they have a basic lighting pkge that is about $600 less than this one--but my FH is very adamant about the lighting. they gave him a presentation at the appt. and showed him the difference between the two in a special 'sound room' they have to show you what they offer. supposedly the light system is very technical---eventually i'm gonna have to see it for myself when we both go together.

If the DJ speaks spanish you might be able to cut some cost by getting rid of the MC. And some halls can pipe music into the coctail hour room. If your hall does that you might be able to cut some cost there as well.

Well I love Latin Music, Part of my responsibilites at work are too hire entertainment. I have a great Latin Band! I wanted them for our wedding. Since FH & I are not hispanic, He thought out guest may not enjoy it (or know how to dance to it) The price I was quoted to have a 3 piece band(vibes, keyboard, drums, plus vocals was about 1/4 of your price. However that was just for the music.... If you change your minds & want live entertainment (for less $$) FM me & I 'll forward their contact info....

i thought about that (and they both speak spanish)...but i've been to weddings where there is just 1 DJ/MC, and i didn't like it. that is one thing i was adamant on--i want a 2 man crew. i feel like the DJ because too pre-occupied trying to do his thing and announce things.
i didn't think about the CH thing. the price includes the CH as 'free'--but we all know that nothing is for free!!

I posted a response on the Latin boards.. I think that is a good price for 6 hrs and Ceremony. Plus you are having the light show. I think music is key and espcially that they specialize in spanish music. I am paying more than you and its only 5 hrs of music, no CH or ceremony. But I love the Emcee I am getting and they work well with Spanish parties. I am with you, I need an Emcee and a DJ.

I met with this DJ as well and think it is a fair price. Can you get cheaper?? Probably, but I think that then you will compromise professionalism and authentic latin music. The video they showed me made me want to dance right there in the sound room so I am sure that they will have your wedding going all night long! Music is definitely an area to spend a little more money on as I feel it makes the wedding. Good luck!
