I sent some of my bridesmaids to get measured. One of which is very tiny We are getting Jim Hjelm Dresses, so if anyone knows how the sizing runs please let me know.
My BM is 4'10 and 97 pounds she is very petite She wears a size 2 jeans, and xs shirts etc. She is not big boned either, she has a size 5 shoe.
So she goes to get measured for her dress and they told her she is a size 8 I was like shocked cause she is so small I ordered my bridal gown in a size 8 and i am 5'6 and have a good 30 pounds on her lol...trying to loose weight for the wedding though!
Does anyone else think that size is crazy? I am just scared its going to be so huge and its just going to be a nightmare trying to make it smaller and it may never look right.

i am 5 ft tall weigh 92 lbs my measurements are 29 bust, 23 waist, 33 hips - i was ordered a size 0 bill levkoff dress for my friends wedding
a size 8 sounds WAY TO BIG for your friend!!!!!!!!!

do you know what her measurements were? i know that when they ordered my bridesmaid dress they had a bill levkoff size chart and my measurements fell into a size 0. your friend is a little heavier than me - but not by much at all - and she is shorter and has smaller feet!! a size 8 just does not sound right.....

you could alwatys ask to see the chart that the store uses to determine sizing. It will show depending on her measurements what size she should be and you could see for yourself. Sometimes I think these places do this on purpose so they can charge more on alterations. I would definetly double check before she orders

No way Nicole, that sounds way off...if they said a 2 or 4 then MAYBE, but an 8? I was a 6 and needed alterations for the wedding I was in this summer and she's half my size!

my daughter who is 11 and a beanpole ordered a size 6 Alfred Angelo. One BM who is a 2 ordered a 12.

I'm a size 6 in jeans and my bm dress for a friends wedding was a 12! They may run really small.

maybe all designers have different sizes for different measurements.......i would call up and ask them to fax or email you the size chart so you can see for yourself.....maybe her measurements do fall into their size 8.....but its weird b/c even if the dresses run small a size 8 sounds really large for a girl your friends size....i cant picture myself wearing a size 8 i feel like it would be swimming on me, especially since dresses that are 4, and 2's are sometimes way to big for me.....

all designers are different and they all make their dresses smaller than average 'street' sizes.
BUT- bridal stores are notorious for ordering dresses too big- so they can charge more in alterations!! I'm a 12 and I was once ordered a size 20! I argued with them for 20 minutes and they refused to order me a smaller size..when the dress came, you could have fit two of me in there! And they cahrged me soo much more for all the alterations and it was a nightmare!!
Go back and have her measured again and check the size chart. Most designers are changing the sizes now to be more realistic.

My sister was in a wedding party and got a size 8 jim hjelm
It was huge on her, she needed so many alterations. my sister is 5'4 and about 110 pounds
I am going to call first thing wednesday to figure this out. I just dont want this poor girl to be going back and forth for a ton of alterations. I know her bust measurement was a 32 and her waist measurement was a 23 or 24

if the dresses run small i hope i fit into the size 0 i was ordered there is no way i can become any smaller i mean maybe i could lose some in my butt and thighs but not my waist or bust or back

Hey Nicole - I don't know if t his is accurate, but maybe it will help...
I usually wear a 4 in dresses and a 6 in pants. I am tall and slim, not curvy at all. For my friend's wedding, we had Alvina Valenta dresses and I had to order a 12!

From the size chart it looks like she would be a size 2 i dont know her hip measurements but the dress is A-line and not form fiting around the hips at all. so i duno where they got an 8 from unless they want to bang her out for hundreds of dollars in alterations
