need opinions re: bridal party

I know this isn't typical, but should I even consider it?!? One of my BFF's is a guy! I'm going to have my 4 closest girlfriends in the party but can I have 4 girls and 1 guy? Or is that entirely too untraditional?

i've heard of that before....

fortunately though my FH agreed to have my brother as one of his groomsmen. (even though i wasn't making his sister one of my BM's).

that worked out really well then! FH already has to have his brothers, cousin, and two closest friends. the only way to get my guy involved is on my side but i'm worried that it's too out there!

i mean it's a little more 'non-traditional'...it just depends on how comfortable you are and especially how comfortable he is with it. if not i think its probably more 'accepted' to have an uneven amount of groomsmen vs bridesmaids...so you could just make him an extra groomsmen and have one BM walk down with two guys on her arm!

that's good advice!!! thanks! but i think if anyone would have more it would be me. i'm already struggling with who i have to leave out simply because we can't have a million person bridal party lol and the hardest person to leave out is dan, one of my closest friends!!!

I don't see a problem with it, as long as he's comfortable. Also, there's nothing wrong with him being a groomsman, even if it makes your sides uneven. I have 4 girls to FH's 6 guys because he included my brothers.

I dont see why you cant have a male honor attendant, I know of several girls who have done that. I have also seen where instead of a 'best man' there was a 'best woman' or honor attendant on the grooms side. if he is one of your close friends, go for it, or if you think it may be to unconventional see if FH would mind him being a groomsman

I think it's a great idea why should we limit who is in our party bc of their sex?! Katherin Heigel just did it!

i think that is great...you can have him standing on your side and I think it is awesome!!! Don't worry about the 'rules' say you should or shouldn't do....its your wedding!

hi date twin i've heard of people doing that before. I once heard of someone having a man of honor. if it's important to you to have the guy, then have him. if you're just concerned about keeping the numbers even, just know that tons of couples just have someone walk down alone or with 2 girls/guys.

thanks for all the input and opinions, girls! doesn't seem like it's so crazy after all!! a couple of people mentioned the importance of him being comfortable being an attendant w/ four other girls. actually, he's gay (not that that should make any difference lol) but the point i'm trying to make (even though it's sounding horrible) is that he's like one of the girls. thanks again for all the opinions. you guys are great!!

I'm having two of my gay friends as bridesmen. I have an article (at work-I'll post it tomorrow) that says things like this are becoming more typical. I say, you can have who you want!

One of the girls I work with had four girls and her brother. Remember that these are the people that mean the most to you and that you want by your side as you get married. Does it really matter if it looks traditional? That's up to you.

If you want to keep it uniformed than ask your groom if he would be willing to have your friend as a groomsman. I have a lot of male cousins and family members so my fiance is having them as groomsman. But we have 12 bridesmaids/groomsman each.
