i am currently going to college and i am having such thoughts of no longer going and working full-time instead. here is the situatuion next semester i am supposed to do my student teaching but i need to take classes on break which i need to pay for cause the school messed up i feel like i keep getting screwed and honestly i dont know if its even worth it anymore this school has made me so undecisive about teaching now. After the weddn when we get a house i want to open my own in home daycare anyway so i am thinkin of working full time now note that i am not working right now to go to school so i would work full time until the wedding and until we have money for a house ( at this pt we have like no money saved and im talking about 4,000) if that cause i am not working its horrible! so do you think i should just work full time and go on with my desire to open a daycare? Either way if i continue school or not ill be opening a day care ...i want to be home when i have kids...so at this pt i feel thats its pointless for me to get a teaching job for like 2-3 yrs and deal with havin no $ now and all the aggrevation

well, won't it be helpful to your clients if you have a teaching degree? I understand your frustration...at this point though, if you've done everything except student teaching, imo you should finish-can you put off student teaching for one semester? Get a job after school? good luck!

Think about your reasons for wanting to enter the teaching profession in the first place, and don't allow your experiences at a university deter you from your plans. Higher Education Institutions can really suck. They can be unorganized, understaffed, and sometimes unprepared to handle the needs of their students. Finish your degree. Go for your licence. You never know what the future holds, and a teaching position might mean job security and really great benefits. Even if you want to open a day care in the future...
P.S. - In NYC you only have to teach 5 years at the same instructional level to become partially vested in the pension system. 10 years at any level to become fully vested.

I feel like you have invested so much time and money already. You are so close to the end. I would stick it out. In the end, you can decide to do whatever you want. However, you will have a degree which is helpful for anything you choose. Remember there are no guarantees in life at least you can have a back-up plan. It sounds like you are so frustrated with school in general which is understandable. I work full time and am getting my masters. IT stinks! However, in the end I will have my degree. More often then not, when people drop out of school, most often then not, they do not return ever. I don't want you to give up some other opprotunities just in order to take the easier path. You are almost there. DO IT! Good luck!

Stay in school girly. When ppl take a break froms school, statistics show that they usually never come back. I've been in school all of my life (i'm 25) and believe me - I've had some of the most difficult times of my life in Medical School. I graduate in April and couldn't be happier! When I go into residency in July, I'll be called Dr and that has always been my dream. Stick to your goals and it will pay off in the end. Good Luck!

This is defiently your decision. I agree that you should figure out why you wanted to go into teaching in the first place-what has changed? Don't let the wedding factor into your decision-even though it's hard not to. If you can honestly say you don't want to be a teacher, than I would quit school, but otherwise for right now.....I would sit tight.

honestly? i'd stick it out and finish. you've put tons of money, time and effort into it, and it'll only help you in the end - whether you're teaching or opening a daycare.
that being said, if it's become too hard to manage financially or emotionally or time wise, or all 3, take a leave of absence. you'll have to check on the school policy, but you'll prob. be able to take anywhere from a semester to a year. this lets you do what you gotta do now and still get the degree in the end. personally i'd just stick it out til the end cuz i'm that kinda person, but leaves are there for you to take and if you think you'll be better off in the end, take it.
