need opionions on timing

need opionions on timing

Need opinions….. The priest called today for a time for the wedding I said 4 even though our cocktail hour starts at 8 I want to make sure we have time for pictures because FH and I want to be a part of our cocktail hour. I said we’d rather not be taking pictures at the Watermill while our guests are walking in some pictures they take are right by the entrance. Also it’s March and you never know what the weather will bring, My MOH thinks I should do church at 5….. If we did the church at 5 I would feel rushed and worried all the pictures won’t be done by the time cocktail hour starts, and we want our day to go smoothly I would rather have the extra hour in the bridal suite if that what it comes down to and get settled before cocktail hour and be able to enjoy the day. What is everyone else doing and any opinions would be awesome......

how far is the church from the hall?

You dont want the guests to have to drive too far and back and forth between the ceremony and the cocktail hour.

2-3 hours should be plenty of time for pictures, unless youre driving an hour out of the way to do the pix.

i say go with your gut. if you feel that you'll be more relaxed during the pictures if you knew mentally that you can take your time and not rush, then do 4.

it's your wedding, so you need to do what you feel most comfortable with. remember, when you're stressed or rushed, it'll definitely show in the pictures.

The church is probably about 20 mins from reception.. 95% of the guests will be from Nassau/ Suffolk so were talking about 1/2 drive for them if they go home after church

For us:

Church is at 3:00pm (prob. doing a mass but undecided right now)
CH starts at 7:00pm (guests can start arriving at 6:45 and the BP can arrive at 6pm)

our RH is about 45 minutes from the church. We have a lot of guests who will be staying at the hotel so we want to allow them enough time to drive to the hotel (10 minutes from RH), get settled and checked in, and be ready when the shuttle buses start to leave to bring them to the RH. We also want to leave enough time for the BP to take pictures (which we may do a separate location en route to the RH, but most will be taken at the RH). I would also, ideally, want pretty much all pics done by the start of CH (I am going to arrange for the first round of shuttles to arrive with immediate family so we can get pics with them done as well before CH).

As far as everyone else not staying at the hotel or not involved in the CH, I haven't a clue. My mindset is 'You can't please everyone'. I have been to weddings with big gaps between church and cocktail hour and I found stuff to do in between and I was always fine.

So your timing is about the same as ours would be u just have the little extra drive.

I'm definatley on the same page as you with not being able to please everyone. When it comes to pleasing anyone my outlook is it's our wedding day and were out to please me and my fiance and for the day to go as smooth as we can, I say if someone wants to be at the church they would not care the gap in between they will find somthing to do in between.

I think 4 is good, and I also think that you should just go with what you are comfortable doing!! You do not want to be super stressed that day!

I think 4 is fine in your case. Do what you need to in order to not feel rushed and frantic.

We are probably going to have the church at 1 or 2 (in upper Manhattan) and the CH (on LI) starts at 7:30. But people can get there early, there are things to do in the city, and the hotel will either be next door to the RH or a free shuttle will be available.

Our ceremony is at 4 and our CH starts at 7.

We are not doing a full mass and our priest said by the time everyone gets in the church, he does the ceremony and everyone gets out it will probably be 45 minutes. (Full mass he says takes like 1hr 30 min with everyone getting in and out)

Its a half an hour drive to the RH.

I definately want to take pictures before the CH and I felt moving the ceremony up to 4:30 would be pushing it just in case there is traffic.

If that break in between makes you more relaxed for pictures than leave it. People can always go home to get changed and relax.
