Need Photographer help

Need Photographer help

We had our 1st meeting with a photographer. we really liked these guys but a little bit over our budget. they quoted us a price of $6,500 (includes tax) for both pictures AND video. After talking about it with my FH we decided we don't really need a video. How many times do you watch it after the 1st year or so? that would save us about $2K. The package does NOT include any enlargements. They kept telling us they give us a high resolution CD and can get that done on our own. After some research, seems like alot of photographers include that as well. They did say they could throw include the enlargements & take away about 10 pictures from our album because they are not that much money. The package does include the following:
full day coverage, 4x6 proofs (minimum 500), do i really need that many??, 2 5x7 parent albums (24 pics), and 12 X 12 bride/groom album (50 pics).

What do you guys think? i am not sure what the average cost is for pictures. Even though i am on a budget i do want quality. They are really nice and seem like they could work something out. I do want to meet with other photographers. Any recommendations? i heard twelth night & duet are good.

Sorry for the long post !! just a little shocked when i heard the price
i rather use that extra $$ for the honeymoon

Not sure if you're looking at other places..but I'm going with Yun Gen Yang. For one person it's $1800 (up to 10 hours) and you can get a second photographer for $600. He includes an engagement session for free and gives you a DVD with all of the images in high resolution. His package doesn't include an album or enlargements etc..but FH are doing that on our own. That could be one way to save $$.

We're also using Digital Art Video for videography. They have packages from $560 (for just ceremony or reception coverage) to $1950 (for up to 8 hours of coverage for unlimited locations and a photomontage and a custom 'music video').

We used Twelfth Night! We loved them. Dom & Anthony were great! (pics in album). You can just have one photographer or if you get two then you get the e-pics for free. You get 3 DVD's with your pics and one of all your pics (high-res) that you can print out if you want. We had 1,342 pics. It's going to be hard to pick from, but well worth it. GL in your search. Have any questions, FM me.

You should DEFINITELY be able to do both for 5 grand. We're doing two separate vendors for about 3K total. It took a bit of looking, but you should be able to find it no problem. If you'd like more thoughts, fm me!

I recommend getting a video- for many reasons, but you can go with a different company and get a better price! try Ray from Timeless Treasures

shop around. try not to go with the first offer you get. it was such a learning experience when you talk to different photographers and studios. you'll learn a lot an i bet you'll find someone you like who is cheaper. the price doesn't sound completely out of the ballpark. i've been quoted a lot more. good luck!

thanks everyone! one other thing i forgot to add... they require payment in full one month BEFORE the wedding... i thought full payment would be due when you pick up your pictures.?

Golden Moments!!!!! They are amazing and will work with you. Our photo and video was $5400 and that was with $1000 worth of upgrades that we wanted.

Thomas Paul Photography is AWESOME and his prices are great incl. engagement shoot, proofs, cds, album, parents albums and enlargements. I'm sure he can custom packages as well. He is a vendor on this site I think.

I'd be really uncomfortable about paying in full before you got the proofs back. every place I looked had a payment schedule that had the final payments being due after the proofs and then the albums/DVD. and the price sounds high - you can get good quality for less. I second the recommendations for 12th Night - their work is incredible and reasonably priced. I personally really wanted a video so I could relive the day and my parents could have one, but that's up to you.

Those price you quotes were Way TOO HIGH!!!

My photographer doesn't advertise - he goes by word of mouth only and is fantastic. Very, very reasonable and so nice. He spent so much time with us. And his pictures are beautiful!

Re: Need Photographer help

I'd back up the recs for Golden Moments. I booked last year and got both video and photo for under 5000. They will (and almost any company should) work with you to get what you want. I plan to make my parents albums and get reprints for the thank you from an online company. If you play around with packages to get what you want and get rid of what you don't you can save money too.

You should look at other photo/video to see what other ppls style and personalities are like.

Definitely shop around some more. I am using Golden Moments and am getting both photo and video for a good deal less than what they quoted you, and they are fantastic and take beautiful pictures and wonderful video...not to mention great guys to work with.
