Need quick advice

Need quick advice

-is there a such thing as a 'pregnancy massage' - that would be different than a regular one?

Problem:
I am scheduled to get a 30 min. massage in a little while. I needed to get a note from my drs office to say it was ok that I got a massage. The problem is I JUST looked at the letter (of course I got it a few weeks ago and never really looked at it) and it says:

Elizabeth is currently fourteen weeks pregnant and is able to attend a pregnancy massage.

SOOOOO, it's not actually a pregnancy massage I am signed up for....do youthink they will give me a hard time? I'm only 16 weeks and barely showing at all.

TIA

there is a difference and if I were you I would maks sure and tell them.

They put you on your stomach BUT in a 'cutout pillow' to protect your stomach and for you NOT to lie on your belly.

showing or not IMO i would definelty tell them and see if they can supply you with the proper pillows.
the massage itself is different in the sense its focused more on the parts of the body that a pregnant woman puts a lot of pressure on (back, legs) but at 16 weeks i cant see that they wont just give you a full body just be a bit more gentle and NOT on the belly area.

PS...ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the info:)

The other problem I forgot to mention is I have a gift certificate for this certain massage. I don't know if that willmake a difference.

Re: Need quick advice

is it a GC for a SPECIFIC type of Massage? Or a dollar amount towards any service.

What spa is it and could you call first just to explain before you travel out there.

I cant imagine them turning you away its really only a matter (i think) of them having the pillows available i am sure any Massage Therapist is fully trained in pregnancy massages (i would assume) since its really NOT to different. Just avoidance of the belly area.

Why dont you give them a quick call before you drive there and see what they say! I hope they accomadate you and you love it b/c they are sooooooooooooooooooo HELPFUL! I just had one the other night and i went home like this

They should be able to give you a pregnancy massage. Some places charge more for it than a regular massage, so you may have to pay a little over your gift certificate.

Besides avoiding your belly area and being more gentle, they will also avoid certain other areas (some people call them pressure points) that some believe could cause contractions to occur. I've had two massages since I became PG and they felt great, but definitely different than a regular massage.

There are massage therapists that are 'certified' in maternal massage, not just any massage therapist can give it. There is a long course given on the techniques, where not to touch, etc. You can't just go somewhere and take for granted that they know how to give a pre-natal massage, it is a 6 month course, my SIL just completed it and she is a nurse practitioner and she was amazed at how much she needed to know about anatomy, physiology, pregnancy, pregnancy conditions, etc. I hope you either cancelled or made sure someone was a licensed pre-natal massage therapist

anyone who is a certified and licensed massage therapist is certified in prenatal massage( well here in ny anyway) but not every therapist likes doing prenatal massage. I worked in a massage therapy office for a long time and one of the ladies just didnt like to do prenatal. so she never did. you just have to let them know you are pg some of the essential oils they would normally use they cant because of the baby.

This is a great point. When I practiced polarity therapy we had to specifically ask the client if they might be pregnant. Massaging of these points (inner ankle and a spot on the shin) could possibly cause miscarriage in early pregnancy.

I don't think so. I have been to afew places and they refused to massage me because they were not certified in prenatal massage and these ladies have their own salona nd have been in business for years. Maybe it varies from place to place, but it is just like newborn massage, you have to take a specialized course.

Re: Need quick advice

Thanks for all the advice ladies

Well, I went and everything went fine. They didn't question my note from the doctor at all. They knew I was four months pregnant and she was very gentle. They also had me lay on the body pillow thingy that had the middle cut out.

It was so relaxing
