Need Registry Help

Need Registry Help

Happy Valentine's Day you lovely ladies!

So FH and I went this weekend to register and it was really overwhelming!

I wanted to know how you guys determined how many things to register for.

My FMIL looked at the registry we started (we are not close to being done; we were just pooped!) and made a comment like we had too much stuff on it.

I think it's because FH and I already have an apt that we have been living in for a year. She kept going, 'you don't have bakeware, a blender, etc.?' And I would say, 'no, we don't.' And she would say, 'Oh, I thought you did.'

So I'm hoping that's why she thought it looked like a lot.

We only have one page worth of stuff on bed bath and beyond's online registry. From what I've seen, most people have multiple pages and multiple stores.

So basically I'm asking how you decided how many things to register for. Did you do it by number of items? Total cost? I'm lost.

P.S. we are inviting about 90 people to my shower

TIA!

I went registering too this weekend! And after looking at what was on the list, I thought it was a lot but came to the conclusion that I know I'm not getting everything. But I do know that everyone will have a choice to pick from PLUS you get a discount after the wedding to purchase everything (which I plan on doing) so why not add everything you want even if you don't get it all?

We definitely didn't go by number of items - we went by what we know we'll need based on our lifestyle. It certainly was more items than we'd realistically be bought, but it'll all be discounted for us to purchase it for ourselves after the wedding, and at least the larger list gave people plenty of options to purchase what they wanted for the shower, etc.

I added the essentials that we definitely need or would love to have... Once my bridal shower is closer, I may need to add more or remove. I am hoping that people will get the gifts for bridal shower and just bring cash for the wedding..

The rule of thumb is to double the number of guests you are having to determine the number of items to register for. If you are having 50 ladies at your shower, then you want 100 gifts on your registry. You should also take into account if people will be buying engagement gifts. If so, then you might want to look at the total number of guests at your wedding and double that.

Yep. The rule of thumb is double the # of guests. You also want to have things in all price ranges. I also think it's fine to register for me as it gives people more choices and you can get a discount to purchase it after the wedding.

We aren't having a big wedding, and we are only having about 25-30 people at my Shower (invited 45, but a lot of OOT)....we registered for like 80 items (including individual dish pieces) at two places (Macy's and Amazon)

Then we did an HM registry

And since we are moving to Manhattan, we knew we didn't need much! So that's why we ended up with a smaller physical registry, and a HM registry on top of it...we registered for things we needed and a few extra fun things, and that was it on Macy's and Amazon

I went with the double the gifts rule. We have 2 registries with about 100 things each on them. I think about 140 women were invited to the shower, so I think that's more than enough. We also don't live together yet so we have nothing together.

hey
put the things you really need / want
then put things that would be nice
be sure to include various price ranges
also, doesnt matter if you put a bunch of stuff no one buys, in the end you can buy them yourself - more is better!

I could just be biased against FMIL's lately, but one page on Bed Bath and Beyond's online registry is not a lot at all! FH and I live together 3 years already and we still have 2 pages, as well as a Target registry!

You can't just register for 5 items, especially if there are 90 people going to your shower. They even tell you at Bed Bath and Beyond to try to make sure you have at least a 3:1 ratio (gifts to guests). People need options in buying gifts, not demands on a short list of items.

Ok, I'm reading this back to myself and it totally just screams out that I'm PMS'ing, so I apologize if this offends anyone ... lol ...
