Hi to reiterate:

A Catholic priest may not marry two baptized Catholics outside of a Catholic Church.

A retired Catholic priest may marry two baptized Catholics outside of a Catholic Church but it is a legal marriage not a marriage sacrament recognized by the church. You need to file forms and whatnot to petition to have the Church recognize your marriage as a sacrament.

A Catholic priest MAY marry an interfaith couple outside of a church. Interfaith is defined as not two baptized Catholics.

FM me if you have any questions.

I'm pretty sure that the exception does not apply to all interfaith marriages. I believe one party has to be un-baptized. (The catholic church recognizes baptisms in other churches, like the episcopal and lutheran churches. FH was baptized Lutheran. We could not be married by a priest outside of a church.)

Also, no matter who marries you, you can always petition the catholic church to recognize the marriage after the fact.

Re: Need Roman Catholic Priest To Marry Us

I went through this as my FH's uncle who is a RC priest will be marrying us. We had originally wanted to get married outside. His uncle is from out of the country so if you have a priest in mind he will first have to get the okay from the parish where the ceremony is. For the ceremony to be held outside of the church you will also have the get the parish's permission as well. Some will do it. It just depends on the area and the parish. My FH's uncle celebrates many masses outside so it is possible.
