My wedding is set for May 12,2007. There are a million things that still need to be done. Like we have to pick a reception site. The problem is I was just informed that my landlord is selling the house where I & FH live. My FH would be happy with going to Justice Of the Peace and leaving it at that. I on the other hand want a reception . I feel kind of selfish, money is so tight and about to get tighter. What do you ladies think? Should we just go to City Hall?
We were originally having a very small ceremony in Cental Park with only immediate family and a recep. for maybe 150ppl. I was in the process of making the save the dates and the invitations to save money.
My FH still has his apt but basically lives with me. Another apt isnt going to be a huge issue, we are actually thinking about moving to VA!

What about having a very intimate ceremony with just close friends and family and then when you can have a party at a hall or restaurant some time down the line.
Dont loose sight that the most important thing is marrying the man of your dreams and not to put yourself in debt and frustration.

No I think you guys will regret not having the wedding of your dreams.
I suggest- you get your living situation together FIRST and then push the wedding back... where you will have time to concentrate on planning the wedding of your dreams.

Re: Need some advice
would you consider having a wedding at one of you family members houses like your parents or any other close family member. I know a friend of mine is having hers upstate in our families huge backyard they are getting married there and having tarps put up for the reception.. its going to be just as wonderful as mine just without the expense of the hall and church

I WOULD SUGGEST PUSHING YOUR DATE BACK UNTIL YOUR FINANCES ARE BETTER. OR YOU CAN MARRY ON THE DATE, AND HAVE A RECEPTION FURTHER DOWN THE ROAD. GET YOUR HOUSING SITUATION DONE FIRST,.

I'd say to get your housing situation in order first...
If you're set on that date, then get married at City Hall, and you can always have a reception later! My mom was invited to a 'reception' where they said that the nuptials had already taken place, but the party was just beginning (something like that!) and they had just a reception at a later date. you can always do that!
i think it depends on how important a wedding is to you...

Re: Need some advice
A wedding is important, but its one day and I think you should get your home situation in order and then maybe have a wedding at a more affordable place or on a thursday night. This way you are not to disappointed with not having a reception. You can have a wedding on a thurday night for $60 a person at the riviera or somewhere else during the day. You have to figure out what is more important for you, to wait a couple of months or to try and save, maybe get a 2nd job or see if family can help. It doesn't have to be an extravegant affair to be special. Think about what is important to you guys and work from there.

I think you should get your living situation in order. then sit down and reanalize your expenses and what you guys want, who know at that point it may change.

I agree, and I'm also trying not to lose sight of that either!

Your wedding day is a day you'll never forget. Do it the way you WANT. Wether its big or small it will be BEAUTIFUL because its your day. Me and FH also ran into a similar situation. We dont live together but we ran into a situation and HAVE to buy a house now. I didn't sacrafice any of my wedding plans because I refuse to! Keep it how you planned!!!! Finances will fall into place eventually..

I agree-Yes I love the Central Park idea-that would be gorgeous! If you can have the recption at someone's house afterwards-that would be great. I would never, not have the wedding of your dreams-if finances don't allow than push it back or set a really tight budget and stick to it. You can do it. Good luck!

Re: Need some advice
I think you should definately work on the living situation first also.... get that squared away! if you really want the whole wedding (don't sell yourself short or make drastic decisions that you might regret down the line) If you don't mind getting married at the justice of the peace i say go for it!!
For me ~ if I knew what I know now me and FH would have eloped/vegas!! But just remember it is about you and him becoming one ~ whatever you choose your day will be BEAUTIFUL & AWESOME!!
good luck!

I know what it feels like to be on a very tight budget but perhaps you should just postpone the wedding until everything else is set.
A year ago my fh and I thought we'd never get married before 2009-----but all of a sudden things just got better.
We're still on a tight budget but it's almost doable. We're downsizing a lot.
I've seen halls for $39.00 a person and perhaps you can have a small wedding w/your close family and friends and just push the wedding back a little?
Let me know if I can help if you do decide to do a wedding. I've really been budgeting!
