We've gotten a lot of wedding-related issues solved, or are on their way to being solved, but I really need some help with this one, and I'm open to any and all suggestions... I need somewhat of a non-traditional father-daughter dance song and I can't come up with anything at all. My dad and I don't have a typical father/daughter relationship...we've never really gotten along tremendously well...so there can't be any references to 'Daddy's Little Girl', no mushy 'I loved you first' type of stuff. To be honest, I didn't even know if he was going to walk me down the aisle or do the dance thing until we just recently attended a family wedding and he mentioned that it's 'tradition' so he's going to do it. So...any ideas??? TIA!!!

Re: Need some advice...
I am in the same boat. My dad left my mom when I was just 3 weeks old so I really don't know what a Dad is. He is in my life but were not close. I have been putting off picking a song because of this. I am thinking of The way you look tonight, Unforgettable, or You are so beautiful. But I may change my mind.

I'm kind of in the same situation, except for me its my mom that I'll be dancing with (dad passed away)....my mom has never been your 'typical' mom and most of the time I've actually taken care of her (usually its the other way around!!), so I'm choosing Daughters by John Mayer b/c its not overly mushy, or putting my mom on a pedestal either. HTH!!

Re: Need some advice...
Great question. I am in a simular boat with my father. As of now I am not dancing with him. I am, however, dancing with my mother. Good luck!!!

What kind of music do you like? Do you want it to feel more like this is tradition or you REALLY have been looking forward to this? Different songs can present different atmosphere's. Just wondering.

Re: Need some advice...
Thank you for all of your suggestions! For those in similar situations, I can definitely empathize with you all and I wish all of you the best of luck in working out your situations. I like the suggestion of 'What a Wonderful World' by Louis Armstrong...it's a happy and sweet song and in the end has really nothing to do with a father/daughter relationship which is perfect for my personal situation, but sums up the fact that my wedding day should be a happy and fun time. Songs like 'Butterfly Kisses' just don't accurately depict my relationship with my father and that's what's on a lot of these lists of 'Father/Daughter Dance Songs'. I'm not 100% sold on the 'What a Wonderful World' yet though, plus it seems as though there are others in similar situations that might benefit from more suggestions...so keep 'em coming!! Thank you!!

That's what I was thinking too! We used this song ......although my father and I are close, he felt this was the best one for us........

Re: Need some advice...
MAke the song about you then, like The Way You Look Tonight ot Isn't She Lovely. Not about him or your relationship, or dance with your mom, if she means more to you. You'll have walked down the aisle and everything already so what can he do? GL with your decision.
