i am in the finance industry. Due to the recent market conditions i'm little worried. i know i shouldn't worry about something i can't control. However, i was planning on using my bonus to payoff the RH. doesn't like bonuses will be too good.. heck i'll be happy to have a job.
so my question is should scale back on some stuff i still have left to do. most of it is done. we haven't booked our honeymoon yet. so i was thinking of postphoning the exoctic honeymoon and go someplace local or the florida keys. but heck even the keys is expensive.
any advice? should we just go all out for the honeymoon or scale back?
thanks

Re: need some advice
You don't have to go on your honeymoon right after the wedding. I know some ppl who went half a year after their wedding because they didn't have the vacation time. I plan on using my tax return money to pay for most of my wedding. Plus my family is most likely to give cash for the wedding, that will help pay off some bills after the wedding. And my FH is selling lots of stuff on Ebay for extra cash.

I would probably cut down on the number of people at the reception. Don't give ppl the option to bring a guest if you don't know them that well. To me, the honeymoon is once in a life time, but I can deal without certain ppl at my reception. I hope this helps.

I have the same dilemma, but everyone that I've spoken to has said to scale back and allocate our money towards the honeymoon. After all that stress of the wedding planning, this will be a great get away for you and your FH.

I too was 'saving' my bonus for the HM, and I got laid off yesterday along w/ 300 others. My advice would be to scale back as if you have no bonus coming, and if you DO get a bonus, plan the HM then!

Re: need some advice
We are not going on the honeymoon right away--due to hurricanes---but what if you wait and go someplace for like 2-3 nights---we are going to hit Vegas for a few. That way you don't spend much and you can save more for the honeymoon or even use some of the gifts that you will get at the wedding to help pay for it?

I think you should go for it as you planned it. I mean you can't always plan for the worst to happen....worse comes to worse you put the honeymoon on a credit card and pay it off over time (0% financing). I think in the future you will regret not planning the honeymoon you wanted just because someing 'might' happen at the end of the year....

Re: need some advice
instead of doing a exotic island why dont you try carribeans, Mexico, DR, or Jamaica? they will probably be half the price compaired to Hawaii, maldives, tahiti
thats how we cut down about 5000-6000 dollars
we got a all inclusive HM suite in Rivier maya with VIP treatment TAKE A LOOK
our package was 5500 including everything you can think of.. plus we got insurance incase we are unable to go.

Re: need some advice
i hear you. I depend a lot on my year end bonus even though FH is telling me not too. I'm planning on using a lot of it toward the honeymoon and saving the rest b/c we will get money at the wedding.
I think it really depends on what's important to you. To me, I would never give up my honeymoon in greece/italy - I'd rather forego the fancy flowers, video, etc. So I would ask yourself what matters most and scale back on that - I know you can't predict the market but it's always better to prepare for the worst, and hope for the best.

Re: need some advice
I would suggest not getting yourself into debt to pay for your HM. You basically have two options: (1) Wait to go on your HM or (2) spend less on your HM.
I suggest #2, because I don't think you need to spend a lot to have a fabulous HM. We went to St. Lucia and stayed at both a Sandals (expensive) and a gorgeous place called Crystals (not expensive), a villa in the rainforest that was gorgeous. We saved a lot on our HM by using miles to book the flights and by staying at Crystals for a longer period of time, which we also ended up liking better.
You could also look on Tripadvisor for ideas on how to book a lower cost HM that is fantastic. FM me if you want to know more or want photos of both resorts we stayed in.

Re: need some advice
We aren't taking a HM either. I just can't afford it. Luckily, I have the summer off so it's not like I have to go back to work right away. The year after our wedding FH will turn 40 and so I figure we can celebrate that and our first anniversary at the same time. I've always wanted to go to Paris and I refuse to spend $$$ on a honeymoon that I settled for. We will probably either do a mid-week rental on Fire Island just to be alone (we're getting married on a Sunday) OR go white-water rafting upstate. Both can be done for not a lot of money.
HTH - and remember, worrying is only borrowing trouble from tomorrow

Re: need some advice
I would scale back on some things that may not be as important to you and definately go on your honeymoon!v From what I hear, flowers is one place you can really scale back on. I've seen just roses that are beautiful, and was so surprised to learn that roses were one of the less expensive flowers.
