FH bought me tix to Movin Out, 8pm show. He gets off work around 4, I'm taking the LIRR from Huntington, he's hopping on the same train at NHP, and hopefully, we'll be together on the way into Penn.
We won't get in til after 5, and we have to get to the 8pm show @ the Richard Rodger's theatre (I think it's on 43rd)...
So my question is, we need dinner fast! Even if we have something light and eat again after the show, neither one of us will have eaten since 11am, and we'll be starved! We're on a major budget, and I know it's pricey over there...we also have to fit the time frame...
I know it's a lot to ask, but does anyone have any suggestions around there?! We'll probably walk from Penn to the theatre - we're so cheap!
Thanks again!!!!

citysearch.com? I'm so naive...I never knew that existed! I'll see what I can come up with - that's tomorrow morning's project I guess.

citysearch is FABULOUS. We've found everything from restaraunts, street fairs, to our dry cleaner that way. it's awesme! There's also digitalcity.com. and I'm not sure if sidewalk.com still exists, I haven't used it in ages

Langans. It's in the theater district and they have a great pre-theater menu. They always ask if you're going to a show and if you are they will make an effort to get you out on time. It's nice but not fancy. DH and I love it. They have a website with menus here.

Usually we go downtown to our favorite Little Italy restaurant (mmmm Positano), but time just won't allow us to on Friday.
Carmine's is popping up, but we had a horrible experience there in December...hm...this is harder than I thought!

There's a Ruby Foo's on 49th. It's kind of touristy but they'll let you order a bunch of appetizers as your meal. The food is really good too! Definitely try the warm goat cheese salad and thai peanut calamari!

anyone ever been to Joe Allen's on 46th? It seems to have good reviews on a couple sites, and it's cheap enough for a quick bite- we'll prob get burgers or something, they're under $20.
And it's 226 W 46th --- the theatre is 326! Can't get much closer than that.

Re: Need some help - city restaurant for Fri night
OK just called Joe Allen, they gave us 6:15 reservations. Yay!
I'm still open for more suggestions though! I hate that we have to rush - I wish we could have a nice relaxing dinner! Oh well, that'll have to wait til Monday.

Joe Allen's is great and don't stress because you have plenty of time to eat! Leave room for desserts, they are so good there.

great to hear!!! OK I'm giving up the search, I'm happy that we found a place. I called for reservations and asked for Friday and the woman was like, 'THIS friday?!' ME: 'um, yes please....we have an 8pm show at the richard rodgers' HER: 'wow, let's see if we have any cancellations, we're booked through NEXT friday!'
Luckily they can squeeze us in at 6:15. One of the site reviews said that chocolate cake was to die for...I gave up coffee and all coffee-related things for Lent! eek! No cappuccino for me! Thank you!!

Great to hear you're going to have a great evening. Do yourself a favor and take the subway to Times Square. 1/9 or 2/3 from Penn. Spend the $4.

Actually for where you are going....take the A,C or E train to 42nd/8th. Your restaurant is on the corner of 8th/46th!! Have fun!!!

Re: Need some help - city restaurant for Fri night
it's only 12 blocks!! If it's nice (not too cold), we'll walk. I love talking to FH while we're walking - we're both so crazy w/ work and school lately, I feel like we could use some catching up! Plus, we have an hour from the time the LIRR gets to Penn and our reservation.
If it's not pleasant out, we'll take the train or a cab.
Thanks again guys I'm excited. I heard that show was great! Any reviews?

Re: Need some help - city restaurant for Fri night
DH took me to see Movin' Out for my bday last month. The theatre is on 46th btwn B'way and 8th.
We ended up eating close to my job at Hurley's Pub, Typical American fare, reasonably priced, right next door is Hakata's, that's Japanese also good and reasonably priced. Both located on 48th btwn B'way and 8th.
You can take the 1/9 trains from Penn to 50th Street.
ETA: get to the theatre a little early, the line to get inside forms pretty quickly.
