Friends of ours just jot engaged. I met this couple through DH. He used to work with the future groom and the four of us have become pretty good friends. They were very generous to us for engagement, shower and wedding gifts. The problem is, everytime we get together with them they come to our house, so I have no idea about their taste. They don't live together but have been dating 6 years.
What were some of the best gifts you got for your engagement?? We will probably spend about $100 They are not registered yet but we will be seeing them this weekend (at our house again!)
Thanks!

Re: Need some help on what to give
Aside from money ...we were given 2 sets of toasting flutes...one of the gifts also included the cake server.
I gave a friend - who didn't register - a margarita set: pitcher, glasses, mixer, tequila, salt, book on mexican recipes all in a tin tub. It was fun shopping for and she loved it. My sister was given 2 sets of Waterford glasses (4 each), from their Vintage Collection. (They are $50 for 4 glasses...and very pretty, imo. Simple.)

Everyone can use crystal vases, candlesticks and pretty bowls. They don't have to match anything and all sizes are appreciated. in my opinion, you can never go wrong with Waterford. No matter what you chose, I'm sure they will love it.
Happy shopping.

Re: Need some help on what to give
I like the gift basket idea. For friends of ours I did a nice set of wine glasses, a bottle of wine, a candle, and a book or two on wedding stuff. I think they are personal and fun.

You can make a nice wine and cheese themed basket with a set of wine glasses, a nice bottle red and white wine, corkscrew, cutting board, crackers, cheeses, and candles. One of my friends gave this to us when we got engaged and I loved it!

Re: Need some help on what to give
what about even soememeory stuiff - a journal to write down their thoughts and stuff, some dipsobale camers or film, etc???
also - another idea we did once - a gift a month 'til their wedding - just funny or maningful thigns that they are SUPPOSED to open every month on their wedding date anniversary - we gave it and the couple opened them all them...but they loved it!!

Something from Tiffany should work or find out if they registered yet.

Re: Need some help on what to give
I was going to suggest something Tiffany...nice toasting flutes for the wedding, or a crystal bowl or serving platter would be in the $100 price range. I have given and gotten engagement gifts from Tiffany, and it is always a nice presentation.

Re: Need some help on what to give
I like the idea of the wine and cheese basket or maybe something from Tiffany or even a gift certificate or cash. IMO, you should stay away from picture frames and vases though. Between my engagement party and shower I have so many of them that I don't know what to do with them, especially since quite a few are just not my taste.
