So this might sound weird, but FH & I are considering going to town hall and just getting married.....now b4 you say WHAT!?! We just want to get married for tax/insurance purposes. Of course I am still have my lovely reception and getting married in the church
So here is my question - if I do this, I want to keep it a secret, not tell anyone. So if I do, can I still get married in the church? Can the priest still sign my marriage license????
If not, then I won't do it...long story short, i need his dental insurance...
I really can't find anythign on this, so help is much appreciated.

I want to do the same. We were even thinking about a destination kinda thing but I didnt know how that worked with the marriage cert. My Mom would be do devistated if she found out. My sister kinda did that to her she eloped to Vegas then through it in everyone's faces!
I also want to do it for Insurance bc i have the worst ins. and I pay $230ish a month through my job for ONLY HEALTH. I have no vision and no dental. Tom has really good Ins and pays notthing. I wanted to get the invisalign before the wedding and its too much $ without Ins.
Im gonna google this brb

I would like to know about this also....FH would really benefit by being on my ins. I wonder if you can still have the ceremony in a church with a already signed marriage license?

def. not going to work! I saw somthing about renewing your vows in a church but im not sure if anyone would find out. My friend was going to do that bc she had a baby and she ended up not having the $ for the wedding and just told her mom she got married at the court adn never had a reception.

I've been wanting to do the same, because of health insurance, but I know that FH would not be able to keep it a secret and then it would be big issues. But I don't have the problem with the church

I think you still can be married in the church the city hall thing is just a civil service not a religious thing. but the priests name wont be on the marriage certificate. FH works at a church on the weekends. When he calls me today I will ask him if he knows anything

ok i actually just went to town hall, bc i work next door and they told me, you can get married in a church again, but they would not give you a marriage license/certf...you are already married and the church ceremony would be just a 'blessing'

By the time you get married 'again' it will be a yr .. so u can call it a renewal of vows ... this is how we might do it as well .... only becuase we are thinking about doing a destination wedding adn some islands you need to be a resident to marry but not renew ...

theres something in ny that if u live with the person and u go thru the town hall to prove that u live together and will be together for a long time, u can get on the other persons insurance. i tried to do this last year when i was thinking about leaving my job and i wanted to pick up fh's insurance. his insurance company said that we didn't have to be married and we just had to prove we lived together for a certain amount of time (like a civil union type thing, i dunno lol) and that we were planning on continuing to live together. i dont know the exact details but i could ask fh

i actually asked fh's human resource rep about it, and he said no, civil unions are not good enough for insurance purposes.

When you goto town hall you get Married. You get a marriage Licence. It is the same as if you got married in a church by a preist. I know many people who have done it.
A Civil Union or domestic partnership is mainly for Gays and lesbians.
Civil unions only exsist in NJ, Conn, VT, Cali, and Oregon. But they do offer the same rights and and responsibilities as marriage. So you would be able to be put on your partners Insurance.
A domestic partnership is a legal or personal relationship between two individuals who live together and share a common domestic life but are neither joined by a traditional marriage nor a civil union. However, in some jurisdictions, such as New Zealand and California, domestic partnership is almost equivalent to marriage, or to other legally recognized same-sex or different-sex unions. The terminology for such unions is still evolving, and the exact level of rights and responsibilities conferred by a domestic partnership varies widely from place to place.
hope this helps! heres the NYS web site http://www.health.state.ny.us/vital_records/married.htm

back to this invisalign thing.....when i was at my dentist 2 weeks ago (he was also my orthodontist when i was younger), i asked about invisalign, he told me that it wasn't worth it for what i needed. and he ended up giving me something else, that would work for 4 months and it was so much cheaper......just a thought instead of invisalign
