ok so tomorrow I have to my employers notice of my resignation. I'm a nanny for 19 month old twins, and I've been taking care of them since they were 4 months old. Their parents have been nothing but amazing- literally the best employers I've ever had, and I really wish I could've given them more notice, but I wanted to wait until we went to contract with the buyer for our house before I let them know (we were originally going to contract on the 4th, but CO's delayed it).We have a 30 day closing which means we close May 15th. And we're coming home from our honeymoon on the 10th.
So my question is, I've never had to give resignation before so I'm completely clueless as to what to say to them, how to bring it up in conversation and when the right time is to discuss this. My last day of work is the 27th, and I'm hoping that by telling them tomorrow it's enough time for them to find someone else to replace me, but I also don't want there to be any issues between us for the remainder of my time there.
I need help

You are resigning because you are moving out of state, correct? I would think they have to be nothing less than understanding in a case like this ... Do you know any other Nannies that you can refer, to try and make their process easier?

yeah moving to FL.
unfortunately, I don't really have anyone else I can refer them that I really trust. Don't get me wrong I have amazing friends, but none who have experience with toddlers.
I'm just wondering if I should say I can come back and work the remaining week with the new nanny to train her- but then that means I have no time to pack, make travel arrangements, get an overhaul on the car for the long drive etc. FH said that I shouldn't, but I just want to make the transition as easy as possible for those boys- I'm the only one they really know besides their parents. It's killing me more that I'm not going to watch them grow up, but we can't afford to live on LI anymore.
ughhh!!!!

I think the best thing you can do is to let them know as soon as possible - especially since I'm sure it will be hard for them to find someone to replace you . Just tell them the truth - that you'd love to be there, but in the last week or so, a lot of new opportunities have come up that you guys have to take and hope that they understand. Offer to help them with anything needed in the next two weeks type of think. They should totally understand!

I know it's hard but I would probably tell them tomorrow, to give them as much notice as possible. When they get home I would ask them if they have a few minutes because you need to speak with them. Tell them how much you have enjoyed working for them and that you are sad but you will no longer be with them after XXX date.
I'm sure they will understand and be sad to see you go.
I also agree if you know anyone you can recommend to them that would probably help too.

Re: Need some NWR advice
congrats on the house!!! But that is a tough position. I would just speak to them at the end of the day and tell them you apologize for the short notice, but you found a house and it moved along much quicker than expected so your last date will be xxx
good luck

I would speak with them, and also write a formal letter of resignation as well stating Thank you for this amazing experience, blah blah and just let them know that you can stay and help as long as possible

i would give them as much notice as possible! I wouldn't wait any longer because it will take a while to replace you - in regards to references and any other searches they may want to do, i mean they are going to be taking care of their kids, you know? and i am so out of the loop! i didn't even know you guys were moving! Congrats on the new house! Where in Fl are you moving to? and what will you guys be doing there?

just be totally honest with them...they will see that you care about their kids and that you are doing something good for you and your future...Im sure they will understand, how could they not.

I would let them know as soon as possible. I'm not sure how it is in the nanny world, but it is courtesy to give companies 2 weeks notice when leaving a job.
My FH's friend is an out of work nanny if they need someone to replace you :)

thanks so much for the advice girls.. I seriously could not have done this without your help!!!
it went well as it could have gone, but I can tell there is some animosity between us now. Oh well, it's not like I intentionally planned on this happening right before the wedding.

thanks antonella!
we're moving to the North Port, Port Charlotte area (on the west coast near sarasota). FH was offered a position with my uncle's company down there, and since we're selling our home in NY, we're just going to relocate down there and purchase a new home. It couldn't have worked out any better
