need some suggestions

need some suggestions

So, this is totally un-wedding related.

I know it's kind of tacky to ask for gift suggestions, but I'm starting to get desperate for my brother's Chanukah gift... I'm hoping that if I describe him a little somebody might be able to suggest something for me.

I need to keep it under $50 (with $50 being the absolute tops)

So... my brother is 25, he works in IT at a bank. He's a big computer nerd... he loves electronic gadget type things, but he's really picky about them, and likes to research all his buys, so I don't want to buy him anything gadgety... he plays video games on occasion, on the computer, but I got him that last year, so I'd like to go for something different... He works out daily, and is really into fitness (lifts weights and runs when he works out, drinks those nasty protein shake things) and is really into just being healthy and things like that... he's got a really great sense of humor... loves animals, but doesn't have any of his own pets (we both still live with out parents, since LI is so damn expensive, so he has our family dog and cats, and he's always playing with them, and he loves my bunnies)
Uh.... other than that... I can't think. I don't know. He's really shy... not the social/bar type of guy... single... like Star Trek and things like that, but isn't at the dressing up and going to conventions level type of thing...

I feel like I'm writing his personal add Anybody know a nice girl for him? My parents keep trying to set him up with people

anyway... I'm really desperate for ideas here, because I want to get him something really great, because he got me a really thoughtful birthday gift. The last two gifts I gave him were a video game last Chanukah, and for his birthday I gave him a DVD of He-man episodes (you know you're jealous), both of which he loved... but I don't know this time.

He sent me this website: www.thinkgeek.com as a place I could look for stuff, but I don't even know where to begin.
Any thoughts? Any of you got geeky boys? What are you getting them? Thanks!

Does he have the star trek dvd set? I am not sure but that may be over your $50 limit. However they may sell it by season and then that might be ok.

I see that website has gift certificates is that a no no or could you do that. I know some people hate them and think they are unpersonal, but I love getting them it gives me a chance to pick out something I really want, and if its for a website that he suggested why not.

I was going to suggest like a DVD box set that he likes, that is always a good way to go, or a bunch of his fav movies

Your brother sounds great...too bad I don't know any eligible women for him.

I can't think of anything right now but I will give it some thought.

hmmm.... that's a thought. I prefer not to give gift certificates, because like you said they can be a little unpersonal... but if I can't find anything else I might do that.

ha, yes, find him a lady! That would be quite a Chanukah gift

poor guy. He's such a sweetheart, but he's just not very social, so he doesn't meet people easily, and my parents have been really pushing him to find somebody because they think it will keep him on LI if he has a girlfriend (he's been talking about moving to San Francisco, where some of his college friends are). Of course what they don't see is that by being a pain the ***, they're just going to make him want to leave!

Oh yes, he's a little young for some of my friends, but he sounds like a doll. Tell your parents to cut it out! But, alas, he will do what he wants to do.

As far as a gift..does he have an IPOD?

Ha, thanks. My parents are a bit dense sometimes.

And he does have an ipod - silver ipod mini. He uses it mostly for exercising. Ipods are a bit out of my price range anyway... did you have an accessory in mind?

I don't know how much it is, but there is a docking station and speakers. Also, you could get him a subscription for I-tunes for $50 worth of songs.

Gift Certificate to Amazon.com

You could sign him up for some speed dating sessions!!

I like the ipod downloads idea.

You could ask him if there is something specific that he wants, but that takes the surprise out of it (and most of the fun too).

A snazzy new tie could be nice.
