Need some suggestions for ceremony.....

So, I'm stumped. FH's mom passed away 10 years ago, and we'd like to somehow incorporate her memory into the ceremony..... I know most people light a candle for this, but our ceremony is outside by the water - so it's liable to blow out. We're doing the sand ceremony for us, for that reason.

So, can anyone think of something besides lighting a candle that we can do? Something nice and different?

I like the suggestions above, and I'd also add - if you're doing programs, you might want to put a special tribute to her in the program.

My husband lost his mother this past Thanksgiving, so it was important to us that she was remembered during our wedding. We talked to the rabbi about it beforehand, and he said some very lovely things during his homily about Joan. It was touching and very appropriate. You could have your officiant say a few things about your FH's mother--talk to him, find out what she was like. All he would have to say is something about how much she loved her son and her family and how she would have loved to be there on the day, and how much she is still missed. Or he could say something more personal. Or your FH could say something about his mother.

I have friends who were married last year. The brides dad and the groom's mom died within a week of each other months before the wedding. They had a prayer said for them during the ceremony. At the reception, they did a short montage in their memory as the bride danced with her FIL and groom with his MIL. It was touching and beautiful and the DJ did a great job of bringing the party right back to being a celebration. It was emotional, but everyone really felt their presence at such a happy time.
