He proposed to his GF on Sunday and I'm helping them plan their wedding.
They're not sure if they are going to do a small Vegas wedding or a small NY wedding.
Need some suggestions for reception halls in NY that can accommodate 50-75 people.
They want something elegant but won't break the bank.
Location isn't too much of a concern.
TIA!!
ETA: They are looking at July/aug 2010

Many places will accomodate a smaller wedding on a Sunday/Saturday afternoon.
Try Fox Hollow

I always suggest San Souci of Sea Cliff for a smaller wedding. And Fox Hollow's Winter Garden Pavilion room is beautiful(they say holds up to 130)

Iam having a small wedding, like 60 people. Look at Westbury Manor, they are totally reasonable, and the place is gorgeous!

One other thing....only because I just got thru researching all this....Westbury Manor, Douglaston Manor and Verdis are only places that will accomodate less than 75 people on a Saturday night. Most wont even accomodate that on a Friday or Sun, they want min 100.
Good Luck!!

Re: Need some suggestions for my brother . . .
if he wants to do something small why not do a restaurant with a private room? La famiglia is GREAT food and plenty of it, and it was 45 bucks a person. no tax if you pay cash...
ETA: i think its in plainedge

Try Watermill Caterers in Smithtown. I'm having a 60 person wedding there in June 2010, and it is very affordable.

Jericho Terrace or Swan Club both accomodate smaller weddings.

one of my favorite locations on Long Island for a wedding is Trumpets on the Gate in Eastport. They have a small minimum (they only seat 119 so they were out of the question for us) BUT the place is spectacular and the food is wonderful. They ain't cheap, though.
