FH & I are headed to our first ever 1st Birthday Party next month, and I'm looking for suggestions for a gift.
This little boy is like my nephew, his Mom is my MOH and has been my best friend since we were 16 years old.
I'm not up to yet, so I don't know what kind of gift to get.
Something sentimental? Something useful?
Help me!!

Re: Need Suggestions or 1st Birthday Gift
I'm a fan of doing a combination of sentimental & practical.
Sentimental: engraved picture frame, scrapbook including photos to document your relationship as well as her child's growth
Useful: baby wipes, diapers, diaper cream, grocery store gift card

Re: Need Suggestions or 1st Birthday Gift
These are some ideas I've had so far .... none of them have wowed me so far though
Her DH is a huge Batman fan, I though this chair was cute (but it doesn't match her living room)
And I love this frame, but it has months instead of years .... but maybe that doesn't matter, I'm sure she has pictures of him from each month so far

Re: Need Suggestions or 1st Birthday Gift
We got FH niece a $100 (only $50 to purchase) savings bond and a gift card to Babies R us for her birthday. It's so hard to keep track of everything that they have and don't have, so we figured let her parents decide if they want to buy her more toys or get more useful things like diapers with the gift card.

I bought my FG when she turned one the Lenox train. For the first year you have to buy the the leading car and then the #1 car.
The only problen is that evey year I have to buy her a car. I think it goes up to 5. They are only like 30.00 each.
it depends if you want to keep up with it.

I think a savings bond is a good idea. Children tend to get a lot of toys and never really play with them.

Re: Need Suggestions or 1st Birthday Gift
I got this for my nephew's 1st birthday last weekend
He loved it! He was pushing it around for the rest of his party and my brother said it has been one of his favorite toys this week - it's a learning toy too - letters, words, colors and hand-eye coordination
Another suggestion would be clothes, the child will recieve TONS of toys and his parents will be really happy to get clothes - my brother and sister-in-law liked those gifts the best

I would either go with something like this or a savings bond.

Re: Need Suggestions for 1st Birthday Gift
I am a huge fan of Beatrix Potter, so I would suggest something from that. Books, or if you look, you can find stuffed Peter Rabbit dolls, that might be a good thing too. The Lenox/Waterford outlets in Riverhead have them.

Re: Need Suggestions for 1st Birthday Gift
Those Duplo blocks (Legos) they make for the younger age group. FH and I got a tub of them as one of the gifts for our nephew for his 1st birthday, and he loved them then, and loves them even more now (he's almost 2 and a half). They're for the 2-5 age range, but as long as they're supervised while playing it's not a problem (which, at 1 years old, they will be, hehe).
Buying toys for kids is soooo much fun!

Re: Need Suggestions for 1st Birthday Gift
Does mom or dad like a specific sports team... we were at a party last week for a 1st birthday and someone got the baby a yankees outfit and it was a big hit.
Little kids like everything so it almost as much as pleasing the parents cause they regulate what the kids play with.
