Need to cancel hall. Please Help. LONG

Ok girls,

Here is the story. My catering hall is now involved in a lawsuit. Due to this the hall is not looking so great. Everything is run down and dirty and we are all very nervous that the service would not be good.

We confronted our caterer on friday and he admitted to being in a lawsuit. It is now 4 and 1/2 months from my wedding and I need to cancel and rebook else where.

I know that under Suffolk County law they need to return the deposit except for 100 dollars if it is 6 months before the wedding.

My wedding is 4 1/2 months away and in Nassau County. According to the Court transcript from his lawsuit they are no longer allowed to book event for members outside of the community. ( My hall is in the Hamlet in Plainview). I feel that will this amendment there is no way I can have anyone rebook and that it should void my contract, because I didn't sign up knowing this.

If anyone knows anyone please FM me. I don't even know what type of lawyer to go to or if Nassau has a similar law to Suffolk. Please help I do not want to lose 8,000 dollars.

TIA

i will try and help. definetly call a lawyer office, and maybe they can steer you in the right direction, you do not want a bad caterer.

8,000 is alot of money, fight it, its your big day and why should they ruin it.

update me when you hear of anything.

Call the Nassau County Bar Association Lawyer Referal Service. They should give you a list of 3 laywers in Nassau that you can contact. You can get a consultation for a small fee. Usually $20-$50. If I had the number I would post it, but you can check on their website (just run google search).
