Need to decide about my name

I was always for changing my name until maybe about 5 years ago when I got used to being an individual. Basically I gave up on finding someone and the longer you are the name, the more natural it feels. Now with Marriage on the horizon and the fact that invitation proofs are pending which are addressed to the future Mr. and Mrs - I need to make this decision.

Without giving out names. I love mine. Love my initials. FH's name isn't bad although soooo many people misspell it. It is an easy name to spell. We've gotten Wedding invitations from his friends addressed to his wrong name and my correctly spelled name. I also respect the fact that if I was a man, I would grow up under the assumption that when I get married the woman would take my last name. FH doesn't care and if he does, he doesn't let on that it does. Also, I know that people will always presume that I have the same name as my husband. Right now if I call cablevision, they call me Mrs. FH. So I know I'll be called it regardless.

Any thoughts? Anyone else struggle with this?

I changed my middle name to my maiden name. Since my old middle name wasn'tt hat important anyway.

Now I still have my maiden name, but just as my new middle name =) so that I didn't have to hyphenate

I am kinda in love with my last name lol
plus, all my professional degrees are in my maiden name
i tried to get FH to take my name.. :P

Well, my opinion, since you obviously have an attachment to your name, is to keep it professionally and amongst your friends and whatnot. But since you mentioned for cable bills and whatnot, you're already being called by FH's last name and you seemed to have resigned yourself to that fact, legally I would change it. It will just make paperwork and stuff easier.

But you'll still be known by your last name to the people that really matter, and a piece of paper doesn't really mean much anyways.

That's a great idea! Was this a choice when you went for your marriage license?
