Need to get the marriage license...

can I go to any town hall? What do I need to bring? Are the town halls usually open on weekends?

Only during the week I believe and you can go to any town hall, as for what you need to bring:
Marriage License

We just got ours yesterday. We live in Glen Cove and simply went to City Hall. It was actually pretty easy. Be prepared to have your decison on what you are doing about your name. I have been so undecided and had no choice but to decide yesterday. Good luck.

I think you can only go during the week and there may also be specific hours.

I just read the link Jenn sent me. Does the marriage license have to be done no later than 4 weeks before? Tomorrow is my 4 week mark! Am I reading this wrong?

I got mine last Friday and they said it is only valid for 60 days. You can not get it if you are before the 60 day mark for your wedding.

I believe it is valid for only 60 days and after 24 hours of receiving it.

Kristen - as you know, we share the same day so 36 more days for us as well! FH asked me the other day if we had insurance on our HM cruise (we do). I think he may be wary of traveling also, which makes me all the more nervous! I don't like to fly as it is.

Edited to say: P.S. We are going to get our license Friday! Gotta decide what to do with my name! Thanks for the heads up. I figured I had until afterwards when we went around to the SS office, etc.

OK this brings up some questions I have re changing my names. I hate my middle name and would rather not carry my current last name into my marriage as my middle name or anything.

Question: Do I HAVE to have as my middle name either my birth middle name (Ruth) or my maiden name or can I change it to something else like say, Angela; and

Didn't someone say that it was easier DMV-wise to keep your maiden name as your middle name? I'm confused here.

Edited to say: I have every intention of taking FH's last name as my last name.

We are going to Tahiti and also have insurance. I am not sure if insurance covers war. I really don't know what to do, I have a call into the travel agent.

As for the marriage license I decided to but Kristen MaidenName FianceName (getting rid of my middle name - no hyphen)

The woman led me to believe either name would be legal and did not have to use both at all times

I'm also in 36 days!

We have insurance on our honeymoon cruise, but I also am not sure if it covers war. I am trying to stay as positive as possible. I have enough to worry about than the things that are beyond my control.....

And the name - I am one of the few who CANNOT WAIT to get rid of my last name! Not that my new one's THAT great, but it's so much better than what I have! I've been wauting a long time to get rid of it LOL!
