need to vent

need to vent

So I'm currently working on my masters degree and will be almost finished with it when its my wedding date. I will have 12 credits remaining after. My current job pays my tuition which is only for parttime 6 credits a semester, but thats fine because i work fulltime.

heres thing my dad is complaining how he wanted me to be done with school first and stuff, but at that point i will be almost done regardless and last 12 credits are internship and practicum anyway.

and whos to say i'll even find new job right after i'm done, current job at least is still decent money and plus maybe after internship is done who knows maybe i'll get lucky and they'll keep me after or recommend me elsewhere.

hes just all about oh you shouldf never be dependent on any man and i want you to be able to take care of yourself. which i agree and you know what everything i set my mind to i accomplished. i was the first in my family to finish college got my bachelors, decided to keep going and get my masters, because its what I wanted to do.

hes trying to make me feel bad or something just because i wont be done with school before my wedding and i dont think thats fair at all. as far as he should be concerned i finished school, but decided to keep going for another degree.

sigh i feel like crying now, thanks for listening i just had to vent

Re: need to vent

I get the same thing from my dad-but its more along the lines of wanting to know if we are going to be ok AFTER the wedding.
If you are comfortable with the way you are doing things then try not to let it bother you and just reassure him. That may be all he needs

I think you are right, not just to make you feel better, but I can relate. You can still finish school after you are married, and it's not like you have 'real' hard classes left either...like you said just internships..etc.

I just recently finished school, and probably will go back after the wedding. It's a preference.

Your Dad is definitely trying to look out for you. He should rely on the fact that he raised you right (from the sounds of it, you've got your head together!) and that you will finish and it doesn't matter whether you're married or not.

He sounds a lot like my Dad-we are lucky to have Dad's that are like that! Ultimately it's your decision and if you want to get married before you're done I say go for it!!! you just have to keep focused afterward. hope that helps

thats thing he asks me this like every month its getting annoying and last night when he asked again i probably sounded aggravated which can you blame me so then he kinda yelled at me and stormed off. but i mean how many times can you ask me the same freaking question and have me explain it again.

plus he also says the being ok after well for now we're fine, but anything can happen i mean theres no control over that. but we both have degrees and i'm going for a second one and he might do the same eventually too which will hopefully help even more, if it doesnt it doesnt regardless we're fine for now. if something goes wrong that can happen to anyone at anytime theres no control over that. does that mean i shouldnt get married just because hes concerned. i swear he starting to make me feel like he doesnt have faith in me or my goals

Re: need to vent

if this were my Dad I would say once only; This is my life, we're getting married and you have to respect that, I will finish school, not because you want me to, because I want to'

not in those exact words that was just an example. I have an open relationship with my Dad though, you might have to phrase it so it fits.

The next time he mentions it, try to ignore it. (you have to say your peace first though) we only get one life you need to be happy. You can have your cake and eat it too! otherwise what's the point in cake?

yes exactly. i mean i've been engaged since july 04. I will be engaged over 2 years before we get married and only 12 credits away from finishing school. I think my decision is fine thats thing it is my decision and my day i'm tired of him making it be like its all him he probably thinks its only cuz hes looking out for only the best for me but at same time hes makning me feel like crap. why doesnt he go nag my sister whos just finished high school and didnt get into a good college and has no clue what she wants to do and told everyone school starts next week meanwhile i just checked and it doeesnt start til sept. so shes lyying but no one nags her

Re: need to vent

honestly, If I were you I would get married as you've planned. Like I said I finished school, but wouldn't even think about going back until after the wedding. I want to enjoy my new Husband-and live life to the fullest. I'm engaged since 8/04 so I know how anxious you are!

I'm sure you and your Fiance have been dating for a long time too-and it's time.

I can agree with your Dad in the fact that most people are not self disciplined and wouldn't finish after they are married so that's where his concern is. rightfully so, but you should remind him that he should have faith in the way he raised you. (that always works for me, if I compliment him!)

as for your sister-if she's younger or better yet 'the youngest', she's going to have it easy and it's going to drive you nuts!!!!! Parents always come down on their oldest the most.

yeah i know and that ***** but yet hmmm no one will ask her about anything i swear sometimes i feel like i'm the parent and then i just end up fighting with her, but its ok for her to mess up and stuff. meanwhile i'm on the right track but i'm bad for getting married before finishing my final 12 credits. how bout yell at her for lying and about how she claims shes starting next week but i just checked and her classes start in sept. and hmm no bills have come in the mail which means she didnt register...
