So when FH and I first got engaged, I had asked my step nephew to be a ring bearer. Mind you he is 9 and a miserable child, but I feel bad that he is always left out of things so I asked. He told me NO. straight out NO. Then my dad tried talking to him and he said no to my dad twice. My stepsister then asks him (his mom) and he tells her no. SO I assume that he is 9 and he understands so he is not in my wedding party cause he doesnt want to be.
Fast forward a month ago. My stepmom calls me and says hey is Jake in the wedding party and I said no he said no so we asked FHs little cousin. She started with well......your stepsister thinks he is in it and would it be a problem. I basically told her yes it is a problem. I then spoke to my dad who totally agreed with me. Frig him he said no, now there are consequences......
well today, my stepsister calls me and asks Is Jake in your wedding party. I then tell her you know he said no so we asked Fhs little cousin could he maybe hand out stuff with the other two little ones. (his sister and cousin) She says ok, but I can tell she is livid. She is also the person doing my hair for my wedding so not the person I want to piss off....
Needless to say I am calling her to tell her that he can be in it. I am just so aggravated with the drama that I really have had enough. At this point I would just go to town hall get married and forget about this stupid $hit....

its always these unnecessary problems that give the most headaches. If I was the parent, I would tell him to forget it because he made his decision, but since your not, as annoying as it is I think you made the right decision to include him in the end, you want everything to go smoothly on your day.

If his mother wasn't your stylist I would personally tell BOTH of them to kick rocks lol I know he is a child but he clearly said no several times. Why would they even think he was still in it? Where was the mom when he said no?
I think you did a noble thing by allowing him to be in the wedding. I agree, you don't want to mess with your day of stylist....you could end up looking like this:

oh this is terrible.. but you said that she aksed her son herself and he said no, so why would she think he is in it.. at least you are giving him another role at the ceremony.. I think thats fine. I wouldnt put him in it, IMO

This is so sad but typical of a 9 y/o! that is y my ringbearer and flowergirl are both 2y/o! they have no say in it at all. Im so sorry for your frustration.

He told him mother no also. That was the funny thing but she claims he doesnt understand. bla bla bla

If you include him or not.. I dont think that she would mess with your hair on the day of your wedding! You are family. She may be upset, but she will get past it. I am sure she knows how disgruntal her little man is.

I agree with the other girls who said no meant no. You're going to go out of your way giving him a job and who knows - he might throw a fit the day of the wedding and not want to do anything.

That is so annoying. I am cracking up at your comment though about her doing your hair. That is very funny. We have a similar situation going on where I'm getting grief for not inviting one of my younger nephews to the reception (we made it an 18 yr old+ crowd only) and I am blown away by how rude people can be when it is supposed to be your stress free day. Good luck with everything.
