NEED to vent really quickly.... sorry...

yeah i know i'm a whiner.

we just got an email at work that we (all attys in my dept) are required to be here either all day saturday or all day sunday.

saturday is my friend from high school's baby's christening - i haven't met her kid yet and she lives like a half mile from me.

sunday is final pre-cana.

Now I have to call my friend and explain to her that I have to bail on the christening. I feel like such a huge POS.

Why don't you just stop by her house the night before or something. Drop off a gift and meet her baby?? This way you won't feel as bad. I don't know. Just an idea.

yeah i would like to do that. hopefully she's avail and her baby is still up at like 7 when i'm on my way outta work. i just haaaaaaaate having to do this. i mean it's like if someone bailed on my shower at the last minute u know? i know how annoying it's going to be, i'm sure she gave the restaurant a headcount.

Ummmm why????? That's ridiculous. Are they at least paying you for it???

I know. It stinks spending your whole weekend doing things that you HAVE to do over what you WANT to do. I am sure she will understand. Good luck!!

The firm I work in has over 250 employess. Only support staff gets overtime for the weekend. Our attorneys are all salaried and if they come in on the weekend, they don't get compensated. Hope it's not the same for you!!!!!

I am shocked that your firm is doing this!! In the Bklyn office, my friend doesn't have to come in weekends at all. Granted, he does straight ins defense work (personal inj/premises liab) so maybe it varies according to department, but that really blows!!! I'd be super angry too!!
If your friend gets any attitude over your inability to attend, I'd forward her that work email!!

yeah the bk office is competely different, we do totally different kinds of litigation. this is known for being the most demanding department in my firm. well... i signed up for this life lol
