Need Toddler Developmental advice!!!!!!

I have a nephew who is only 4 days younger than Aidan -- ( 17 months old) and he talks up a storm -- I mean really says things well... He can say everyone in the familys name -- he also walks up to Aidan -- saying ' hi Aidan' and every other word possible. Aidan says alot -- but he does not get all of the syallables-- Like for Sugar -- he says 'gugar'..and so on -- My nephew says each word clearer than the next -- He says Mommy -- Im tired/hungary/thirsty -- etc.
Is he normal or is that above average vocabulary for his age-- ? I always thought Aidan was right on target -- but now I am worried?

Every child is different! I think Aidan sounds like he's right on target, too. Your nephew does seem a little advanced for his age. Paul learns new words/sounds everyday, but he has yet to put them together in a sentence.

How is Aidan's comprehension? Does he understand what you are saying when you ask him something? If so, I wouldn't worry...he'll start speaking more and more in his own time...and then you'll wish he had an 'off' button!

That is advanced Aidan sounds right on target. What kind of care does your nephew get? Is he home with Mom, babysitter, day care? I wouldn't be but if you are truly concerned you can have Aidan evaluated by early intervention. All children develop differently so please don't sweat it.

Is your nephew the oldest child like Aidan or does he have older siblings to catch up to? I noticed that my younger children always did everything faster so that they could catch up with my daughter.

Every child is different. Some children don't talk alot until they are about 2 1/2-3. My sister has convinced me not to compare my child to others you'll drive yourself bonkers!!

I dont' have much experience in this but I do have one story about myself to share...

I started reading at right under 3 years old. I taught myself so the story goes - it was probably Big Bird..but you get the idea, and by 2nd grade I was at a 10th grade reading level. I had a teacher that would give me the newspaper to read aloud in class. We have audio tape of it - every word is incredibly clear, perfectly pronounced and so on.

Third grade came along and my teacher called my mom in and said - 'Jenny reads wonderfully' - my mother beamed...'and she doesn't understand a WORD'.

I had to start at a first grade level - see **** run kind of thing- to learn the comprehension. My mother always says now that sh'ell never judge a child's progression at any age!

wow - thanks for all of the advice! Aidan understands everything I ask him to do -- and does it -- he is very smart -- I am not going to worry and I will try to stop comparing -- it is so hard though -- you dont know what is right or wrong when its your first !

Kids develop so differently. I know its hard not to compare or see what others are doing or not doing, but dont worry, they will all be fine/caught up by kindergarten (So Ive heard )

Ive also seen many HUGE differences with different kids, and its nothing that made a difference later on.
