Hello! I am a newly engaged (and very excited!) bride-to-be from Port Jefferson Station. I live in New York now, but plan to get married in 2010 somewhere in Long Island. Here are my questions. For my reception, I would love to do either: 1. a farm, with an old barn to hold the reception in, or a large field to hold a tented reception in 2. A clambake. Either by the water- a lake or stream will do!, or again, in a tent. 3. My least favorite option (as of right now)- a hall with DELICIOUS food, that may be able to accomodate my plans for a cuisine of New England clambakes. Again, this is for 2010... either spring, summer or fall, and a guest list of about 220. Okay. thank you all! I do not know what I am doing at ALL, so any suggestions/comments/ideas would be greatly appreciated. Also, if you know of anyone who has a large property, that can be rented out and tented, please let me know. Thanks again. SK

check out the Queens County Farm & Museum!! IT sounds perfect for what you are looking for. Its on the Queens/Nassau border, so it shouldnt be that far.
Good luck...and welcome!

Re: Need venue help, please!
Martha Clara Vineyards has a barn where they hold receptions. I dont know how many they can fit, but worth the call.
Also, try Gurney's in Montauk. I bet they could do a clam bake type event.

Check out the Old Field Club. Not exactly a barn or farm, but it has a rustic feel and is on the water. Really charming.

In Montauk, there's something called Third House (something house) and I THINK you can rent it out for the wedding. Then you can call East End Clambake and they can do the catering! It will be a TON more work than a RH becuase you'll probably have to rent everything (silverware, tables, chairs, linens, etc.) but if you're looking for something different, it's worth a shot.
I had a tented waterfront wedding in Hampton Bays...we did a clambake style custom menu...you can check out my review for pics/details...it was at The Inn Spot on the Bay
Ooh! This sounds great! Thank you. Did the Inn have a tent that they provided to you?
Also- if anyone knows of someone with a BIG property/barn on Long Island, who might be interested in making some money and renting it out for the day, please let me know!
Thanks to everyone. Love all the replies. I have my work cut out for me! Great introduction to the group!
