need your help...thinking about having a friend officiate!

My FH is interested in having his friend perform our ceremony. I liked the idea and after thinking it over thought it would be very nice to have someone close to us complete the ceremony.

So onto my questions....

Has anyone done this?
or Is anyone doing this?

if so...

What is the exact procedure to make it legal?
& Where can I find information on it?

We asked FH's best friend (they've known each other since they were 9. He's 35 now!)

Apparently the laws are much more relaxed in Suffolk and Nassau than in NYC. We are going to ask him to get ordained online. He just has to print out the certificate that he gets and then after the wedding he just has to file the paperwork within 5 days for everything to be legal.
