I am suppose to leave Friday afternoon and come back Saturday from a sorority weekend. I am an active alum and there is a chapter opening in NJ and they asked my Alum group as well as the initiated collegiates to participate. I agreed to be there.
Last night I get an email from the Alumni Advisor (who is a friend of mine but also mad at me because I asked another sister to be in my wedding and not her) for the collegiates asking me and another girl if we would mind driving because her car is over its milage and she dont want to get a rental car and the other girls car wont make it. She also lives in Long Island. I told her I cant because FI needs the car for work. We havent heard back from the other girl. I know the other girl, she wont even drive to Queens so asking her to drive 3 hours to NJ is out of the question.
The advisor also told me to be at her house at 1pm. I asked her if I could carpool with another alum because she lives 5 minutes from me and it would be a lot easier for me to meet up with the other girl as it will be completely impossible for me to go with her. She told me its easier the way its set up (I have no idea how. The 3 girls live in Long Island and I have to travel out to them, where I have alums that are 5 minutes from me) I am starting to change my mind about going.
What do you girls think?? I spoke to FI and he said I know you, you will dwell over this and you shouldnt. If she wants to be uncooperative its not worth it to you dont go. I am starting to agree

Hey...I'm starting to get confused on this one, but is one of your options to not drive and just carpool with the alum who lives 5 mins from you?

Re: Need your opinions - do you think I should go
I was wanting to carpool with the alum that is 5 minutes from me. BUT the alumni advisor told me no I have to carpool with her who lives about 45 minutes from me because its just easier that way.
edited to add: yes I was told I would be able to car pool and I wouldnt have to worry about driving

Hey I just FM'd you back and I think I understand the situation now.
I think, given all the info you gave me, the alumni advisor is being really unreasonable. It's most certainly NOT easier to carpool with someone who lives 40 more minutes away! I would say, you are doing them a big favor here by even going...if they can't accommodate you by letting you do what you originally thought you'd do (i.e., carpool with the close alum), I think you should bag it.

Back atcha with the FM...
The more I think about it, the more the advisor is being selfish. I wrote it in the FM. So much information and I just keep forgetting things (and things I think that are not really important but actually are)
I think I am just going to bag it. I'll go out with my best friend, she's been asking me to go out with her on a Friday night for a long time.
Hanging with my best friend definatly seems like a much better idea

I think so too. You'll feel better doing that. Less stress too.

Re: Need your opinions - do you think I should go
The alumni advisor Christina and the 2 other girls Lana and Melanie I know for a long time. The other girls who live 5 min from me I dont know very well but have met a few times. Christina feels I'll have nothing in common with the other girls and I'll be happier traveling with her, lana and melanie as lana and melanie are recently engaged, I know them all for a long time and I'll just have a better time with them.
So because of this Christina just feels its better I travel with her.
But I think I am going to bag this. Its too much stress and its been bothering me for 2 days. My best friend who is also my maid of honor has been asking me for weeks to hang out with her at this bar because its kareoke night and its so fun to watch those who cant sing try too. I think I'll have a much better time with my best friend then this whole mess of the weekend.

Personally, I don't understand why you are basing your decision on what a pain in the ass the Advisor is being. You didn't decide to go to support her as an individual, you decided to go to support your sorority as a group. You do have the power to say I'm taking care of my own transportation and going with the other group. I'm not at all trying to persuade you to go -- just trying to remind you to think not about her, and instead about the real reason you were planning to go. If that isn't important to you anymore then by all means, Karaoke it is! (Can you videotape it? We'd love to see. hehehe)

Re: Need your opinions - do you think I should go
thanks Valenia. I think I am still going to bail on it. I looked through other emails that were included and I saw some things I didnt see before and that really upset me. (Its probably really tedius, but she made the list of who was going and my name wasnt on the list nor was it included who was staying with who at the hotel. For some reason I feel she forgot about me)
I was up all night thinking about it and how I am going to tell her i cant make it. I have always put my sorority before me and my life and no matter how many times they screwed me over on certain things I still put them first. I think this time I need to take a step back and put me first
thanks

T yup. Right up till this morning. I wrote the advisor an email telling her I am bailing, I am not up to going and I just have too many things going on right now. I appologized and told her how much I would love to be there, but I need to put myself first.

Sounds like the advisor is trying to set it up so its very convenient for her and NOT for you. I say you definately made the right choice.

Re: Need your opinions - do you think I should go
Here is the email she sent to a lot of other girls and then eventually forwarded to me (I deleted important info pertaining to the sisters). this upset me. The list has everyone's name but mine. Maybe I am overreaccting on that, but it seems like its set up perfect except where am I suppose to be..
Hello ladies! With the amount of sisters we have going to Stockton next weekend, I think 2-3 cars should be enough. It's only an overnight trip, so one bag and a pocketbook per girl should be sufficient.
Going I have: Christina R (who is the advisor). Stephanie Stephanie Lori Fouzia Beth Colleen Lana
Two rooms have been booked for the Alpha Alpha ladies. --------------------------------------------------------- There will be 4 women in each room and their are exactly 8 girls on this list, where am I???
