Need your prayers...

Need your prayers...

About two weeks ago my little sister had a major medical crisis. I got a phone call at 6;00 AM from my mom hysterical crying saying my sister has been taken away in an ambulance. From the sound of her voice I thought my sister was dead. (She's had a lot of health problem since she was born -she's 24 now).
After being in the hospital overnight and started on two new medications she seems to be getting better but I feel like I'm a timebomb ready to explode. I keep reading about horrible side effects from the medications she's on and everytime the phone rings my heart jumps into my throat. I can barely type this I crying so hard.
I hate talking about the wedding because I feel that I'm being selfish when her life is now so hard.
On top of that my mom hasen't been feeling well. I know she's been trying to hide it but I can tell by the way she looks. She has a bad heart and lungs and I'm scared something might happen to her also. I'm the oldest and I feel its my responsibility to take care of things but I just don't know if I can handle things anymore.

Edited to say...Sorry, I guess I just need to get that off my chest. I know this isn't really appropriate for this board. Sorry again.

Re: Need your prayers...

I am so sorry to hear of all your problems, especially when this should be the happiest time of our lives.
First let me say (and it may not be correct or what you need to hear), but your sister is in the best place right now, in great hands I am sure. I will pray for her to be well.
As for your mom, why not see to it that she takes time for herself and rest a bit and maybe see the doctor to be sure she is ok.

I am sure things will work out. We are here for you, vent anytime or FM me if you want, I'll listen anytime.

Hugs to you.

Hey, no need to apologize. Thank goodness for this website. It's true. Who is really there to understand us at this time in our lives. You are not selfish for talking about your wedding during this crisis. They may need to hear about it, to get their minds off their own pains. We are here for you. You are in my prayers.

Re: Need your prayers...

I will have you and your family in my thought and prayers. I agree with Jennbaby that your mom should seek some medical help as well. You can even volunteer to accompany her. It may put your mind at ease a little to know that she too is in proper care along with your sis. I am very close to my sis who is around that age so I know how you must feel. But please keep praying and trusting in God.

Please let us know how your sis is progressing

Re: Need your prayers...

I am sorry about your sister being sick. I understand the pain and anxiety that families go through when family members are ill. I am a nurse, I work both in the emergency room and a nursing home, so I often see the patient's families going through difficult times. I know sometimes that these doctors can explain things in a way that is not sympathetic, and it can be very overwhelming to the family. I think its wonderful that you went ahead and looked up the medications and all of that in order to take an interest in your sisters care. Dont be overwhelmed by what you are reading, they list in the book EVERY possible side effect that showed up in studies, and it doesnt mean she will suffer from any or all of them. Feel free to FM me if you would like to talk more. Good luck.

Re: Need your prayers...

Don't apologize!! This is what we are here for in good days and in bad. All of you helped me during my dad's situation as I am sure we will help you.

I know how hard it is to be the oldest and have to take care of your parents when they are sick. If it wasn't for my dad we wouldn't be here and when he was hospitalized I pretty much became him for a while. Scared the crap out of me. My mom isn't capable of handling things the way my dad is and I was very nervous on top of the wedding planning, my sister and her nervous break down, my mom and her emotional state and work.

I too started reading about my dad's situation, his symptoms, the medications they were giving him. Some were making him halucinate! I spoke to all the doctors, the nurses, even the people that cleaned up my dad's area! I wanted to make sure everything was okay. But I remained strong for him and my family's sake. I engulfed myself in helping everyone else and noticed that in helping them feel better, I was feeling better b/c I saw my loved ones happy.
I put what was less important to the side-wedding planning and my social life. Everyone understood.

I talked about my dad's health and his recovery often. B/C that is what I needed to do for myself. I tried not to think about it and let it sit in my head b/c that is what my sister did and she lost it one night after we got home from the hospital.
Think positively for your mom and your sister. Its okay to cry and let it all out. Sometimes crying does help in a weird sort of way.
If you want to talk, I am here. Forum mail if you want. You and your family are in my prayers.
