needs some RD advice

needs some RD advice

FH and I are paying for everything by ourselves including the RD. Our house we rent is too small, so we have decided to have it out at a restaurant. We then had to make a decision whether we could have our BP bring guests. SInce we are so tight on cash we decided to just have a small dinner with BP (no spouses, guests or BF and GF), Our parents and the readers. Which of course I know is not etiquette, but this is what we can afford. Now this is causing one BM to be very upset at me for this.

What should I do?? I can't afford to have any extra people and we do not want to offend anyone either. Please help!

TIA

sounds like you just need to stick to your guns and explain to her.

I think it's really inconsiderate of your BM to be upset at you over this - you guys are paying for everything on your own and if you invite HER BF/FH/DH then you have to invite everyone else's too!

Seriously, I know there are 'rules' as to how to do things, but people need to understand when these rules need to be broken or tweaked or whatever.

ITA. does she know that you guys are paying for this on your own? if not, now would be the time to tell her - it may change her feelings. i know that i would totally understand - and if she is engaged, married, or in a serious relationship she should understand about budgeting and be more considerate!

tell her you will GLADLY be accepting donations for the BP to bring their guests to the dinner.

then remind her 'MY WEDDING!'

Georgia, we are in the same boat as far as paying for EVERYTHING ourselves. Our place is too small for RD also so we're also having it in a restaurant. Spouses, BF's, GF's are not invited either. My 2 BM's that are married totally understand b/c they've been through it before. You need to have a serious talk w/ her, I agree that it's really unfair for her to be upset w/ you, she's showing no consideration. If sh'e willing to pay for him that's fine, but then your going to have to explaint hat to anyone else that might want to bring a SO. Good Luck.

Thanks girls so much for making me feel better. I am so over wedding planning and all the drama that goes along with it. She knows that we are paying for the wedding by ourselves and doesn't care because she got married last year and say that you should do everything by the book. (my BM is my cousin) I explained to her if we were in a different financial position we of course would have everyone with guests, but unfortunately this is not the case. I have come to terms with everything and realized that I cannot make everyone happy and that everything we have done is for me and my FH.
