My FH and I are finally getting ready to book a photographer. What we don't really understand is the business with the negatives. Some photogs give you negs other charge you for them after they release them. So here is the question, if I get the negatives can I really use them?? Will another place reprint pics or will their be a hassle?? Does anyone have any info or know anyone that has experience with this??Thanks for any info.

Re: Negatives and Photographers..need input
You can re-print the negatives just be sure to get a letter from the photographer stating he gives you the rights to do that.

Re: Negatives and Photographers..need input
For me, I didnt really want my negatives for the following reason:
a)I didnt want to be responsible for them in case the proofs were destroyed by fire or some other catastrophe
b) development requires a professional lab anyway which is costly and requires technical knowledge

Most photographers only keep the negatives for a limited amount of time then dispose of them. For that reason, some people like to have them in case they need them at a later date.

If and when you do get them, store them in a safe deposit box. We get to keep ours and our photographer gives us a release letter, so that we can do re-prints w/o any hassles. All the best

we got our negs. my husband is a semi-professional photog. he can re-print them whenever we want. when we are done printing them we will put them in our safe deposit box.
HIGHLY SUGGEST JACK ROMAN! - do a search me and you can see some pics!
