I am going to start looking at photographers in the relatively near future. One thing I was really wondering about is if the photographers give you back the negatives after the album is done. I know that you pay for the film and the developing, so I assume so, but I don't want to sound stupid when I meet with the photographer.

I have a creative compositions question, since we are considering them. Did you find their prices reasonable? Also, were they willing to negotiate at all? we are in the midst of discussions I would like to get an idea what they do. I thought their quote was high

Mine wants 300 for the negs well raw images on disk.. but i thought it was reasonable since adding that 300 still put his package contents better than others and price was still reasonable... it IS important to me to have my negs/images!!!!

I asked my photographer about it. They do charge you for them and the price seems to vary by photographer. I am using Marco Photo and he is charging me $40 for the negatives when every thing is done.
I know this is an old post but I think this is the photographer that told me they would keep them for 3 yrs then turn them over.. something like that.. i may be wrong so please ask for yourself if you meet them! They are great!

It depends on the photographer - that was a priority for me - some photographers actually told me the negatives belong to them b/c it is their 'artwork.' After all the money i refuse to pay for MY negatives. I would insist it be put in writing in the contract and should be given for free. Several photographers do give them on request at no additional cost. I would ask everyone you meet with.
ETA: I have to pay more attention before responding - why was this bumped - i'm so nosy?????
PS for girls getting digital demand that the CD beHigh Resolution otherwise the quality will be terrible and unprintable.

This was also a priority for me to get my negatives for free or for a fee. I looked into so many photographers and most mixed it up on whether they gave them out. Mine though gave us our High Res negatives right after the wedding and we still haven't picked what we wanted in terms of our album.
