Negoiation options...

Negoiation options...

Ok-my top top choice is slightly more ($4 over the pp price) that we can spend...my second choice is exactly the price we want to pay. Just reception alone going with #1 choice is at least going to cost us $400 more (if we have 100 guests).

When i go there tomorrow...is there ANY thing you ladies can think of that i can ask that they eliminate or swap to either reduce the $4/pp OR swap it from somewhere else? Lower costs for Ceremony fee? Maybe doing only a signature drink & wine during the CH instead of a full open bar?? We went to a wedding last year; where the bar didn't even open until the reception! No alochol at all during the CH. (I don't want to do that)

I know $400 isn't A LOT. But we have a tight budget; and trying to see if there's anyway mathematically i can get my top choice to equal the same costs as my #2? I'm an accountant so i'm all about the numbers and the bottom line! LOL!
Thanks

Re: Negoiation options...

I would honestly go to them, and say 'I love your place, but the another place quoted me $4pp less, which is what we were planning to spend. Could you match that price if we put down the deposit today?'

I think they would definitely be willing to work with you without cutting anything out.

Also, what is the minimum for the room? If the minimum is low, let's say it's 75, you can tell them you'll guarantee 90 if they lower the pp price by $4.

ETA: If they're not willing to just give you the $4 reduction, I'd say to them 'ok, so how can we get this price down to $x' and let them give you suggestions on what to eliminate. At this point they might see that you are really serious and still give it to you.

One easy thing to cut is if your hall gives champagne and strawberries when people come in, maybe you can cut that out? But I really REALLY think for $4 they should be willing to work with you

ITA I think most places will def work with you!!!! Also, if u raise the minimum by a lot, u may be able to get more than the $4 off...Good luck!!!

I play hardball negotiating with every vendor. I always ask for price reductions and additions, and I get EVERYTHING in writing. My family has been embarrassed by it, I think..although I feel they embarrassed me more by telling me to stop and just trust people, in the middle of my negotiations, but so far I've gotten more than the standard and paid less than rack rate for everything I've booked. Every few hundred (or thousand) counts!

ETA:

In fact I might not tell them $4. I might just say they're more than you planned to spend and another hall quoted you less, and see if they suggest anything on their own (I think most places PLAN to knock prices down a bit), and only if asked, or if they give you a higher price, quote the $4

THANKS!! I'm going to check what the mimums are-if we can guarantee they a higher minumum; then they're getting more $$ right off the bat so it works in their favor to drop it just a little.

I agree with this 100% - $4 is not that much for them to work with. I think being upfront w/ them and letting them know what you can and can't do they will work w/ you. They DO NOT want to have the date open over $4/person.

Thanks everyone! I feel like i'm making such a big deal in my head over $4. I'll just talk to them and see what they can offer.

If it's my RH..if you can guarantee more they will give you $$ off.

I agree with the other girls..tell them what you can afford and see what they can do or else see what can be taken out to meet that price

Every place marks up their prices knowing you will try to get them down. When we went to were we booked we got them down about $30 pp less then they were asking orginally its def doable play around with them!

Times are rough and they need your buisness u dont need them so theball is in your court!

We told them we got a better deal which we did and they matched it they wanted to see the paper work to prove it but the day we signed i forgot to bring it so it all worked out really good!

Good Luck!!

How did it go?

UGH i'm sad The price difference i was worried about was for the Smaller room. The room isn't going to hold the guests i need; we'd need to move up to the larger room and pay closer to $12 more pp. Which STILL isn't alot; but definetely more than the price i budgeted to pay for the reception.

I just don't want to go broke paying for this wedding... I did the math; to cover everything we can easily save the money needed each month; but we'd really be cutting back on a lot. Going to one more hall saturday; (2nd choice) if they can still offer the lower price and i like as much as my #1 then that's probably what we'll go with.

Oh and i tried ALL the techniques...he originally gave us a price that would have been $19 more but he did bring it down for us. But wasn't willing to cut out the entree; or raise the minimum; or eliminate any of the bar options during the CH. He said the best he could do would be to have no alochol (for the CH) and i don't think that's something we want to do. don't most people expect to get drinks during that hour??
