Has anyone found it possible to negotiate the ceremony fee?? Just trying to see if it's something i should make a big deal about?? If they tell me $700 (which i think is a lot) for a 1/2 hour ceremony; is that the price ALL the time?? If i'm doing a Saturday daytime wedding can i try to negotiate that price??

Re: Negotiate Ceremony Fee??
Is this with a church? If so, I've never heard of anyone doing that before. And that's one vendor I wouldn't try to negotiate with. If it's your RH, talk to them, you might be able to get it down a little.

Then I'd definitely try to negotiate. It couldn't hurt!

Be happy yours is only $700. Mine's $1000 at my RH and I couldn't negotiate!!
Don't get me wrong, the area for the ceremony is GORGEOUS, but I don't think it was worth that much.
If you can negotiate, do it!

I can't comment too much since I am getting married at a church - but it never hurts to ask. All they can say is no - $700 is a lot (Hoops..$1,000 is crrazy) so it never hurts to throw it out there.

Not booked yet; but trying to narrow down my choices...the watermill is one of my choices though. Looking at Westbury manor; Douglaston Manor & THe Swan Club as well.

That would be great! I'm looking for a Saturday Afternoon but from what they're telling me it's pretty similar to a Sunday afternoon but if you can send me those quotes i'd REALLY appreciate it!!!
also-was there any one factor that made you go with the watermill over the others??

Re: Negotiate Ceremony Fee??
the main factor was:
FH grandmother had recently passed away the month before we booked and she kep telling us to go see the WaterMill and one day FH was like lets go. we went there and he fell in love and so did I. It more like a piece of her will be with us that day since he was very close to her. he lost his mom at the age of 3 and she was his second mom-
I LOVE WM but the cokctail room they were oftening was too small (the sitting) and I tried to talk to them and they didn't see what I saw happen (cramped guest)
I will once I get home send you the FM qwith quotes
keep in mind it with ceremony and 110 quest

I'm so sorry about his grandmother
But thank you for being honest about the decision you made. I went to WM over the summer but was looking to have 150+ people then so i never did get to see the smaller room that I would be using now. I've been dealing with Felicia and she has been great. I plan on making another appointmnet to view the rooms again. in the mean time i'm going to the showcases at the Watermill; Swan Club & Douglaston Manor coming up hopefully i can make a decision before March!

It actually didn't take much haggling ... we just said 'can we do anything about that?' and the BM said 'ok, i'll get rid of that fee for you' lol
If the BM doesn't want to remove that fee for you, see if you can negotiate some kind of extras (like a sushi bar, or chocolate fountain, or even lowering the per person charges) ... the motto is NEGOTIATE EVERYTHING

Re: Negotiate Ceremony Fee??
you can negotiate anything. Ask for where they get their figured from, have them break down the cost and if it still doesn't make sense, see what you can do!

Try telling them that you have gone to a few other places and is it much lower. are they doing something special for it to be that high like providing floral arraignments for the ceremony?

That really does work. I got a lower quote for the Fox Hollow and it helped me bring down the cost of the Reception for the WM. I too had an issue with the upstairs being too small for the cocktail and reception for 120 people and couldn't afford the big, 150 min Manor room.
I've been hearing the average price is $600 for a onsite ceremony. My church is $300 for the church, $350 for the priest so it's about equal but then I have to pay for limos to get us there and ceremony musicians at $200 a piece. I don't want just an organist.
