Negotiating

Negotiating

So here I am newly engaged. I have been reading these boards daily. I love how supportive and helpful everyone is. So, earlier I asked about everyone feelings on outdoor weddings and we are leaning towards that but I was hoping now to get some tips on negotiating with the vendors.

I am most curious on what should I push for to be included. Also what should I not waste my breath on.

I know that it never hurts to ask for lower prices but I also don't want to come off as the cheap bride and have them do a sh*tty job because they are not making enough.

Any thoughts or ideas would be great!!

BTW I am looking at Aug 2007.

Congrats!!!! on the recent engagement!

You and FH should figure out a budget....and then figure what the absolute most you can spend on each area of the wedding. Then figure out what the most important things are to both of you...for us it was photography. When you visit with vendor tell them what you are looking to spend but make sure it is a little less than what you actually want to spend. You'll be suprised at what you can get just by asking. Don't be afraid to tell them what you can afford to spend...most places will work with you and if they don't move on. The most important thing is knowing what you want b4 you go so you seem sure of yourself.

I agree with the above poster. Figure out a budget and then go with it. I wanted a more expensive photographer. I told her what I could spend and she worked with me.

Also, another great way to negotiate is shop around. Then, when you find who you want to book, negotiate using other's prices. For example, one florist wanted $165 for my cp's and another wanted $125...so I took the latter's quote to the former florist and she came down a lot. $20 x 30 cp's is a lot of money!

Also, if you can pay in cash, most vendors will work with you so you either don't have to pay tax OR they'll throw in stuff. My hall is throwing in viennese hour for me, for example.

Congratulations and good luck!
