Negotiating with Reception Hall?

Negotiating with Reception Hall?

I would like to know if negotiating the price of the reception hall and cost pp is standard practice. For example, if we are offered $90pp, should I try to get them to go down in price? Is negotiating usually a long, involved process like buying a car?

And if anyone has any tips or experiences about negotiating that might help, please let me know. I am not usually so good with this kind of thing and neither is my FH.

I negotiated everything. It never hurts to ask because if you don't, oftentimes, they won't do it for you.

Exactly what I was going to say. We got a lot of extras just because we asked. They also brought down the price per person a little if we guaranteed a certain amount of people.

It is worth a try. The worst they can say is no.
I got a better plate price, reduces minimum guarantee, and a reduced price for the seafood dsplay. If I get a certain number of people, the seafood display is added in gratis.

Its definitely worth negotiating...FH and I took my parents with us to the RH and between my dad and FH they were good talkers who were able to get us $10 cheaper per plate. I agree with SusiBtoM in that the worse they can tell you is no we cant work something out. Good luck!

My future father-in-law negotiated the reception hall price down $10 per person. I'm glad he came with us because my fiance and I never would have done that.

I've tried negotiating with every single vendor...some will, some won't, but I would say a majority of ours did...including the RH. FH says I'm a tough cookie. LOL. If they don't come down in price, ask for add-ins (upgraded meal option, extra CH station, chocolate fountain, etc) before you sign the contract.

Good luck!

Definately asks- depends on the RH, the date and all those factors- while a lot will not lower the price- many will throw in extras for you hth

yes it doesnt hurt to ask. i found most halls were willing to work with us. each one tried to do something to accomodate our needs.

Sometimes you can negotiate in price, but if not you can always negotiate for them to add extras for the price they give you.

What kind of 'extras'?

This is exactly what I was going to say. My place did not lower the price, however they did lower the guarantee for us by 20 people which was perfect because we met the guarantee exactly so we did not have to pay for 20 people that were not there, and threw in chair covers, the VH, sushi in the CH, a 'to-go' cart, and upgraded the ice sculpture.

It is definitely worth asking them!

fh and i love to feel like we are getting a bargain. i'm def a tough bargainer while he will settle on a price that could be made lower. my big mouth will hopefully get us some extras or discounts.

We got our price down by $10pp.

Many halls are willing to negotiate -- however, if you're booking far in advance for a popular hall during their 'in' season, they will be less willing to negotiate. We were negotiating only about 8 months out for a hall that isn't really 'in season' in the summer (more so fall - spring).

some wont budge, but some will. Try starting with letting them do their spheal and then tell their price. Then try telling them you were only looking to spend 'X$' and they may work it down towards your # a bit. You can also try to get some things thrown in like vianesse tables (sp?) or try and negotiate the price for the add-ons. It never hurts to ask. Good Luck!

You should DEFINITELY try to negotiate. I can tell you from my experience that I felt my hall was barely willing to negotiate, but I still got an extra or two thrown in and the price reduced a little bit. Some places are far more willing to negotiate than others, but I think every place has some wiggle room.

For example, Ben from Lessings dropped the price $35 per head when I didn't even ask him to (I just said I was no longer interested) and the guy at Floral Terrace gave me the Viennese Hour and Extra Hour for free because I happened to say 'I have a Sweet Tooth' while we were meeting.

i'm not good with that kind of thing and neither is my FH. he and my mom are kinda like... it sounds good let's do it! kinds of people.

i wish we'd tried to negotiate a bit better but i still feel like the price we got was great.
