Is anyone else negotiating with vendors over the contracts? I had them alter my RH contract a bit (no charge for making dishes gluten free - so I can eat my own cake!) and bad weather stuff. i am still waiting for the DJ contract to arrive, and now we are trying to do the photography contract. i just sent him a rider to add to the contract. Am I like the only person who does this stuff (probably because I am a lawyer)?
PS If you are handwriting in changes to the contract, make sure you initial next to the handwritten change and the vendor initials next to it too, just some advice!

Re: negotiating with vendors over contracts
Because we're getting married in January, even though we don't think it will snow, we're putting in bad weather clauses into our contracts. They basically say that should we cancel due to inclement weather we will be able to schedule for a new date and if they're booked we get a full refund.
For our photographer we also took out the engagement picture session. For our limo we added that we want a ride to wherever at the end of the night. For our RH we added in that we will need vegan food (as several attendants and other guests are vegan). They are doing this at no extra charge.

Re: negotiating with vendors over contracts
I have negotiated on with several vendors. If I do not need something that is stated in package I asked them if it could be remove to bring down my package price. I also mention to them that since my wedding is during offseason do they have lower rates. I have been pretty successful so far.

Re: negotiating with vendors over contracts
I try to get EVERYTHING in writing (especially upgrrdes, throw ins, times, etc.) and I have negotiated vey hard with my RH, band etc. but I have to fight my urge to reword and insert riders. I had an issue with one photography contract essentially allowing the photog to publish our pics at her discretion without any consent but it wasn't something she would change. In the end I try not to let the attorney in me take over the bride - it is not easy! :)

Re: negotiating with vendors over contracts
You are not alone! We are both soon-to-be lawyers (both finishing law school) and we are negotiating with all of our vendors and plan to do so with the ones we are yet to hire. Vendors pad their prices and negotiating them down only brings the price to what the service is actually worth plus any modest profit that they must make. I do not mind giving them the profit, but I refuse to overpay. Negotiating is the way to go. We also added clauses to our RH contract but that must be a law thing.

Re: negotiating with vendors over contracts
We also negotiated, got the band down $4,000 which is quite a bit if you talk about inflating the prices.
RH was also willng to work with us on price, add ons and time.

Re: negotiating with vendors over contracts
We aren't taking the first price for anything- I also notice that vendors get excited when I mention that I work in the business- its paid off alittle
