I just got assigned to my last internship placemant and it is in East New York. I am a little scared of being in that neighborhood by myself and just needed to hear some advice or kind words

oh no!! sorry!!!...i heard bad things but i'm pretty sure if you walk and mind your business nothing wrong will happen. I've walked in pretty bad neighborhoods in nyc and turst me it's scary because I am not used to it but if you walk amongst a big crow you should be ok. Good luck!

i knew somebody who lived there and would go there alot at that time. It definitely can be a bit sketchy well more than a bit. But also depends exactly what ave its on, do you happen to know? if its off a major ave or depending what block it might not be that bad. Alot of ppl hang out on corners but certain corners and certain areas you'll see large groups of ppl. If its not around any of these areas it wont be that bad actually. If i was able to go im sure you will at first i felt the same and thought 'oh great i'll be hated hahaha' i would go to the park when they all played basketball, was ok bc i was with a big group. Then also would go at night to this nightspot and it was ok too.

Don't worry! I drive thru there everyday on my way to work and I work not too far from there. The kids are a rough bunch but i've never feared for my life if you know what I mean jk. Like I said, don't worry too much you will be fine. And one other word of advice, car theft and vandalism is popular in that area so just lock up and don't keep things in view from the outside that people could take. I hope I didn't scare you. I was nervous too at first but you'll be fine.

Are you a teacher? I worked in Far Rockaway for three yrs and always had meeting on Pennsylvania Ave in East NY honestly no one ever bothered me...it was always daytime...I wouldnt even think about it.

the place i saw many hanging out was on fulton, theres also pitkin and pennsylvania ave from what i remember. Dont remember that exactly but although i was more by other aves, doesnt mean its not crowded. At first you'll be nervous but you should be fine. You'll also be getting there early in the morning right? so yeah dont even worry then. If you were going at night then it'd be a bit different and even then ppl wont really start for no reason at all.

No Im not a teacher Im a speech pathologist so I will be working at a hospital down there. Im not sure about my hours yet but Im hoping it is in by 8 out by 3

will they offer you faculty parking at the hospital? if so that would be fine. ALso when youre by a hospital i wouldn't worry. Ive had to go to hospitals in some other bad neighborhoods too and right around it, you'll feel safe. Theres usually security out there, theres usually always cops right outside, emt parked right outside. And most ppl wont just be hanging out on the corner of a hospital

not sure about the parking yet but you can bet that before I officially take the job I will be asking about that. Im not even really sure about the facility...whether or not it is a full service hospital or more like a rehab center/nursing home. The problem is my supervisor says this is were I want you to go and it is very hard to tell her no...so I figure I will check it out first and see what it looks like

you'll be just fine. just look ahead and keep to yourself but walk with large groups and get a thing a pepper spray just incase u need it!

my I probably would be more comfortable if I could have pepper spray but my brother is a cop and took it cuz it is now illegal to carry can you believe that...there just is no right way to protect yourself any more
