nervous about honeymoon

so i was reading more reviews on trip advisor about our honeymoon spot (occidental grande aruba) and a lot of the reviews were very bad.

do we switch hotels? FH told me to call our TA in the morning to talk about it. i'm all nervous now and dont want this honeymoon to be a bust. we upgraded to the most expensive room (jacuzzi suite) without going into a royal club room and i'm soooooo nervous!

Re: nervous about honeymoon

i would definitely call your TA if you're nervous about it and get her honest opinion

i'd call TA and question it. my views on tripadvisor is that all the bad ones have a lot of truth, but so do the good ones...so weigh it out. my FH posted once on tripadvisor a review and he was very honest b/c some stuff upset him. there will always be bad reviews, but if there are a lot, then maybe look elsewhere. i always use trip advisor when booking a trip.

i'm going to aruba and we're staying at the marriott surf club. if you wanted to switch i recommend looking into one of the marriott hotels or one of the better rated places.

I talked to an LIW girl who went there for vaca and she said it was amazing

you have to remember trip advisor people like to complain! people always go online to complain

I have def heard mixed reviews, but also heard mixed reviews about Riu also which is supposedly the most popular aruba all inclusive

my hotel has bad reviews on trip advisor too and I went there last year and it was beyond amazing so I wouldnt trust it 100%

but if youre really worried talk to your TA and try talking to people who have been there recently

Friends of ours went there on their honeymoon 3 years ago and still rave about it. They loved it.

My friend stayed there for her honeymoon in August and she hated it. But imo, everyone is different, you may end up loving it. I stayed at a resort in Barbados once, that received rave reviews, and I hated it, so it really depends on the person.

I find that most of the time that the reviews on those websites are always the complainers and people that had a bad experience, the people who have an awesom time dont think to write a review

Re: nervous about honeymoon

Thanks!!!! I know what your saying about complainers.
Just makes me super nervous. I dont want an outdated musty smelling room!!!! I also dont want rude people who work there. I also want the honeymoon package we paid for which many reviews said they didnt get. And if my oceanview is a parking lot view.......i will not be a happy girl.

Why did your friend hate it????

What have you heard about the riu????

I think if you chose this hotel you must have really loved something about it! I read some reviews on trip advisor and everyone is different. You can't base your opinion off of someone else. Otherwise you prob would re consider everything. I hear Aruba is a gorgeous place don't worry about it!!

Re: nervous about honeymoon

if you're nervous, call your TA. but my experience trip advisor is that there are extremely picky vacationers there that find everything and anything bad that they could write a review on. i've stayed at places that got bad reviews from travellers on trip advisor and i personally thought the place was amazing. im sure you have nothing to worry about!

Well, we decided to go wiht it and OH BOY WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE..
Nothing of what we heard was true... well at least for us!! We had an awesome time!!

THIS!

You wont find any hotel that has 100% great reviews. but if you are second guessing it may be switch. a friend of mine just stayed at the Riu in aruba for their honeymoon and loved it

Re: nervous about honeymoon

I went there in 2009 with FH (LoveyDovey was the one who spoke to me). We stayed in their best Suite (2 jacuzis, 2 bathrooms, living room, dining room, 3 balconies). It was worth every penny. Honestly my only issue was the buffet food wasn't fab but the reservation only restuarants, expecially the asian, is to die for. Plus you can always eat out there are a ton of restaurants across the street. We loved every second of our stay there. I chose that resort b/c I had a friend and cousin both who went and loved it and they didn't even have the incredible room we had.
I love tripadvisor too but you have to remember that most people who post reviews on vacations had a bad experience and that's how they want to 'stick it' to the resort. I promise you - you'll love it. Also, when I check out tripadvisr I give a little more credit to the people who are from NY or the east over the others from mid-west or oversees b/c their concept of good differs greatly from ours usually!
I'm on FB with about 200 pics of the resort. You can find me through the LIW 2011 facebook page (name's Amber...) if you want to see my pics.
