Neutering
Did anyone get their dog neutered lately? Do they keep the dog overnight, or can I bring him home the same day?

We had our dog neutered in Jan., he just had to stay the night and we were able to pick him up early the next day.
How were they when they came home. I am terrified he will want to play and run around and hurt himself!!!
Thanks!!
Depends on your vet. Mine was done in April. He stayed over and by the time he got home he wanted to run and play. The nice part was that he was totally himself by the time he got home, maybe slept a little more but that's it! As it turns out, I had a terrible migraine on the day he got home. I went to bed early and he stayed in the bed with me (he uses a ramp anyway so it's not like he jumped into by bed). Otherwise he was very playful and happy!!! I needed more care than he did!!!
I work at an animal hospital in the Bronx. When neutering or spaying your pet they do stay overnight. They must come in on an empty stomach..procedure takes about 30mins...and they stay overnight to rest.
It depends on where you get it done...some places will keep the dog overnight and others will send them home early....I used to work in a Vet's office and keep the dog overnight was a way for them to make extra cash....the dog is alone all night and in the morning all they did was take its temp. I took all three of my pups home once they were done and fully awake....I wanted to be able to keep an eye on them and not leave them alone and scared....If you're looking for a good place that does low cost neauter/spays give North Shore Animal League a call....HTH
