Neutral colors besides beige???

Neutral colors besides beige???

OK, this is a silly question...

Im not much of a white/beige person...
BUT I dont want to paint my bedroom a color that I will be stuck with (matching the bedding and accessories with)...

I definately plan to have lavendar/plum bedding (if I find something I like).. and I also like browns (if I were to change bedding in winter), I really like lots of colors, but cant just go with something that will match ONE color, does that make sense ?

I really like that orangey-brownish color that Marcella mentioned in her post, thats what I had in mind for months, but I dont know how it would look with color themes...

Any idea on how to be neutral yet have some color/texture/warmth in the walls ???

We plan to do it sponging/ragging for the texture part of it

Thanks for any ideas

Our bedroom is a taupish brown color with a suede finish from Ralph Lauren. I think it can be pretty neutral, this is the best picture I have here...

It looks richer in real life. Our carpet is a dark red so we were after the same thing - something neutral but not 'flat'.

Christine, your walls and furniture are BEAUTIFUL !!!

I guess thats along thelines of what I want. Its like when I get a haircut, I know what I want but cant seem to get it into words or visualize it

I love your lamps, small and simple. I have a small room, so I was thinking of either small lamps like those, ONE standing lamp or no lamps and just getting a dimmer for the light in the room...

Thanks Anna!

We re-did our bedroom about a year ago and I just love it!!!! I wish we had before and after pics to show the difference - it went from a mish mosh of crap to a beautiful adult/married couple's bedroom.

And in all honesty, it's DH that has the eye for decorating!

We got the lamps at Home Depot Expo - I picked those The shades are glass and super cool!

I needed bed table lamps - I couldn't stand to get up to turn out the light.

Do you want a more blue purple tone or a red purple tone?

When you mention your purple color scheme, this combination came to mind.

I think the brownish taupey color that is in the throw on this bed works really beautiful with the blue purple tones

If you want to do more of a red purple, I think you need to go more beigey than taupey if that makes sense. LIke this combo:

I have this color beige on my walls along with a burgandy wall and I think its a good combination. But the reddish/royal purples give you fewer options in terms of contrast colors than the more icey purples.

Anna, I love the Calvin Klein stuff Stef posted! One word of caution though ~ if you decide to go with CK, I suggest buying the comforter, pillows, shams, etc. but getting different sheets. I have CK sheets and HATE them. My CK comforter and accessories are great, but the sheets... What a nightmare! They were a tiny bit small for my king bed when we took them out of the package, and after one washing SHRUNK even more. Plus they wrinkle and pill.

By the way - I wasnt suggesting the bedding - just the color scheme.

Re: Neutral colors besides beige???

Thanks for the ideas girls!

Christine, Im LMAO 'a mish mosh of crap' sounds like what my room just was.
WINE carpeting and a floral AND striped wallpaper (Dizzying headache)

Stef, I definately prefer deeper tones, but that CK set is very nice.
I have so much burgundy in my home (Bathroom, carpets, etc, that the previous homeowner put in, that im kinda tired of looking at burgundy and its one of my least favorite colors but that color combo that you have does sound really rich looking together!

I just got this set for my parents (dont ya hate those people that buy others what THEY love ).
This is more the color scheme Im thinking of (not necesarrily with flowers, just that color combo), but I didnt get it for myself because I dont know what to do about my MUST HAVE of a king comforter (and my bed is queen).. someone told me I can get away with King everything (sheets, bedskirt, etc. but I HIGHLY doubt that, its a HUGE size difference
so I Think I have to find something where I can buy all separates (and hopefully not pay toooo much) but I do plan to go ALL OUT as far as spending (well ok, Im hoping under $300 for everything )

Jenn-get your money back!

Customer Complaints can go a LONGG WAY, especially with the big brands

If you already have a comforter - can you pick one of the accent colors in that and match the paint?

Re: Neutral colors besides beige???

I dont have a comforter (for the new room). Everything out there seems to be in sets or bedinabags

and Im not sure I want to match to one set, since Im sure I'll change it at least once a year.

Re: Neutral colors besides beige???

I think no matter what color you paint it or how hard you try to pick something versatile, you will end up wanting to go a whole other route in a few years time anyway. At least, thats how I am. I get bored of seeing the same stuff so my favorite colors a few years ago are my least favorite now.

I would say find something that you really like. Either a paint color or a bedding or a piece of furniture or a painting - and then work the color scheme around that.
