Re: What would you do.....?
i think doing what your doing is good enough
it's easy to send mass cards and gifts etc., but friendship and being a shoulder to cry on is far more valuable

Re: What would you do.....?
When my aunt died, her neighbors came and brought meals every day for the family. We thought that was an amazing gesture of kindness, so I think doing something like that would be very generous of you.

I would offer to spend time with your friend, doing something for her sister. Cook meals together and then she or both of you can take it to the family.
That is a terrible thing.....

Re: What would you do.....?
I told her to come here any day she wants when she gets home from being out of state, just to get away and I will dote on her. I told her to come here, lay on the lounge chair infront of my koi pond, listen to the waterfall, I'll make you lunch, or whatever you want.
I just hate feeling helpless when one of my friends is in pain. I think that I will make some meals and bring them to her and if she wants to bring them to her family she can or she can use them for her and her husband if she wants.

You are already doing it...you are listening and that is the best thing that you can do. Cook something for the family or order them bagels or something like that would be very much appreciated by the family, I'm sure.

Sometimes being a friend can be the smallest gesture but will mean the most.
Your friend's family will be in prayers.

I think cooking the meals for your friend is an extremely kind and thoughtful gesture but most importantly being there for your friend by listening and lending a shoulder to cry on.....by doing this you are helping her to stay strong for her sister.....You sound like a great friend to me.

Re: What would you do.....?
MY aunt lost her husband exactly the same way. They got in a huge fight, it was a snowy night...he left the party they were at, got in his car and skidded into a telephone pole (he was only 30 years old) and died instantly.
I think helping out with preparing meals, maybe some housecleaning, and most of all, listening and just being there. Even if she doesn't want to talk, it's a comfort knowing that someone is there if and when you are ready.
