New here

Hi everyone

I just recently got engaged (still on cloud 9 )
I was wondering how long everyone waited until they started looking at reception halls and different vendors?

CONGRATS!

I just got engaged this past december. I started looking at halls in January and ended up booking at the end of January.

So far, nothing else- but we have time still!

I started looking at RH right away......and then after couple of months I started looking for vendors from my RH and friends and LIWeddings. com. Congrats!

Congrats and welcome! We waited about 2-3 months and then went to look and booked a little after then....

It all depends on you and FH.. i have a friend who got engaged after me and booked her RH within one month of her engagement and they arent getting married until way after me

Hi! Welcome and Congrats!! I got engaged last May and started looking at RH's right away. I booked last June for this coming August. About a year before I booked my band, and photographer and ordered my dress. I booked my florist about 8 months before. Good luck in your planning!

We got engaged at the end of november and started looking at rhs about two weeks after. I figured a lot more couples would be engaged by the new year and wanted to get a head start on the rh. Plus, i was really excited!

booking depends on when u plan to get married.. we got engaged in aug 2007 and starting booking in march of 2008 for our june 2009 wedding.. hope that helps

I got engaged on St. Patty's Day of this year and we started looking the week after... only bc FH is a teacher and we knew we wanted it in the summer of 09 and summer dates go fast!

If you want sometime in 09 I would go somewhat soon, esp if it's in the summer... when we went about a month ago we only had 2 or 3 days to choose from for the whole summer! If you want to wait til 2010 you probably can wait a little longer.

I started looking at reception halls about a month after our engagement.
It's a good thing I did. We were planning on a year engagement and I just made it with the date I wanted.

we started planning right away and already had a date picked because my law school schedule really limited us. however, if you are more flexible you can take your time and enjoy it

Congratulations on your engagement!!

I would start looking into RH's as soon as possible. I got engaged in Feb of '06, and we booked our hall 2 months later. Try to book your major vendors as early as you can, because the more 'popular' vendors book up very quickly.

Before you start looking into halls and vendors you should figure out what your budget is. From there figure out when you want to get married - you mentioned summer of '09 or '10 - do you have a certain month in mind? The day of the week is also a huge factor - as a rule of thumb Saturday nights are (generally) the most $$. The next step is to come up with a tentative guest list - all RH's have a minimum that you must guarantee, so you'll need to have an idea how many guests you're expecting.
