Heyy I'm new to the boards, I just got engaged a little less then two weeks ago! I'm very much looking forward to planning my wedding. So does anyone more experienced here have any advice for someone just starting out? My FH and I have appointments with Timberpoint CC and Venetian Yacht Club to look at this weekend, but other then that, I'm lost! I'm super overwhelmed! Also, does anyone know where we can rent a cheaper hall for an engagement party? Any advice anyone wants to give, I'd love to hear it! Thanks so much

Re: New here!
Congrats!! From what I've learned on here, a restaurant with a sep. room seemed to be one of the cheaper ways to go for an engagement party. Good Luck and happy planning!!!

Re: New here!
Welcome to the boards and congrats on your engagement!!
I went into this whole wedding plannning completely blind! Your def off to the right start with looking for a RH. I see you have Sept down as your month. Sept is a peak month which means prices will be higher. You can save $$ by going with a Fri or Sun wedding instead of a Sat. If your calling around for quotes be sure to add another 20% for services fees + state tax. Before going on your appts write down the questions u may have and bring it with u so u wont forget. Find out if there are any other fees such as your maitre d. Some RH will charge u another cpl of $ per person for this. Anything a RH tells u will be included or thrown in make sure to get it written in your contact b4 signing.
Hope some of this helps!

Congrats and Welcome!! Im fairly new to this as well, and it will calm down soon! I was so overwhelmed the first 2/3 weeks with everyone asking if we choose a date, or picked a RH. Enjoy looking at halls, that was so much fun! Is there a price pp youre looking to spend?? Maybe we could help with RH suggestions!

Thanks so much Jassy! That is great advice! I didn't think to write down any questions I had but I will def do that now! And since I don't have a date, the website made me put in a date. I don't necesarily have to get married in September although I really would love to... but I will def look at other days of the weekend. Thank you so much! You were a big help !

Thank you Coley! That's funny you said that, because when we told everyone we were engaged the first thing anyone said to us was 'did you pick a date?' I was like 'aghhh, we just got engaged like yesterday, how could we pick a date?!' Lol... I am looking to spend no more then $120 pp because we are going to have a large wedding. Please, if you have any RH suggestions I would love to here them! Thanks again!!

Congrats on your engagement.
Do you have a vision for your wedding? Beach, rustic, ballroom? Do you see marble or woodwork?
I can suggest some if you let me know what kind of styles you like!
Glad to have you with us!

Make sure you talk to Eric at Venetian Yacht Club.
Your price range gives you a lot of flexibility. Ours was more limited.

LOL! I know all about that! I remember making phone calls to let people know we just got engaged and theyd be like 'So when is the wedding??' I was still trying to let it sink in that we were engaged!
I dont know how September prices are but for March all the places I looked at were under $110 (after the 20%++). If youre interested just FM and Ill send you what I have still! Good luck!!

Re: New here!
I dont know where you live but we had our engagement party at the beach pavillion at Ronkonkoma Beach (very affordable and even cheaper if you are a Ronkonkoma resident). We really wanted to keep costs down, I also called the Hibernian Hall in Babylon and a VFW in smithtown. The place in Ronkomkoma was right on the beach and it was nice, we brought in some decorations and it looked great.

Thanks so much!! I'm looking to do a ballroom wedding, preferably with some kind of water/oceanview, although I don't have to have water, just would like to. Also, I'm leaning more twords marble also. If you have a ideas for places that have these things, I would love to hear! Thanks again!

Yes! My FH called and spoke to Eric and said he was really nice! Also, my FH's brother works at Venetian so we are going to go with him and hopefully he will help us get a good deal there because so far I really like what I am hearing about VYC.
And thanks for all the resturant ideas! I will def check into each of them
