Hey - someone told me that when you walk into a new home you should bring a chair, new broom, sugar and salt. does anyone know the meaning? or any other superstitions?

My mom did the salt thing...she sprinkled it all over the front by the door...I don't know the real meaning...just that it's supposed to be good luck.

All those things and cornmeal and a bible are supposed to enter a house first. Not sure why...symbolizes things like never going hungry and comfort and cleanliness I think.
I heard this superstition... when you build a house the contractors should leave one wall unpainted when the family moves in, because the devil can't enter an unfinished home.
